Is there another exercise I could do instead? I hate benching, it embarasses me completely...
If not, so be it, but is there?
Also, is there a substitute for incline bench?
Thanks.

True :D
Also worth doing shoulder press, that'll work the triceps to.

I'm more concerned with my peccs than my triceps, although they too are a target muscle.
Best exercises for peccs? Anyone? =D

Weighted pushups, dips, slide pushups, planche work. That's all I can think of right now.

LOL!
You answered it in your first post.
Bench Press.
Just suck it up and get to it. Start light and work up to heavy.

That doesnt really hit the chest :p
Im surprised no one has mentioned this but, if it something you hate doing, and you are bad at it theres only 1 thing to do. Bench. Seriously, if you know its a weak point, work on it and improve it since its a great chest exercise. Also as Combatant mentioned, do dips; they are also a great chest/tricep builder.

Best way is to bench, but if you've got access to a cable crossover, you could do that. Otherwise you could bench dumbbells on a bench--might be easier for you.

To answer your question, there really isn’t better exercise for pects than big fat compound bench press. Dips are ok, but bench is bench.
Try DB Bench press if you can’t find spotter.

I hate benching too. Its friggin boring. It became a chore after I found the joy of lifting stuff overhead.

Hardly a trick question.
I am curious what a 'compound bench press' is.
I know what a bench press is... but I'm unclear on what you've referred to as a 'compound bench press'. Are you getting in more movement than the rest of us know about?

Your over complicating things there :p, hes just refering to bench press as a "Big fat compound" movement. Like he said, he types like a girl :p :D

Yeah, my absolute biggest problem with benching is the lack of a spotter. Second to that is hating to do it.
I suppose I can do some dumbell benching, though.
Thanks, all.

If you don't want to bench, don't bench.
Some db bench stuff and over-head pressing should suffice just fine. A heavy push press is always more impressive than a heavy bench press.

Kinda surprised that no one's mentioned pushups... Incline, decline, wide, narrow.
So, so much fertile ground for chest workout there.

Someone would've mentioned them, if they were worth mentioning. If you can do more push-ups than you've got fingers and toes, there's not much point in doing them at all.
A heavy push press is always more impressive than a heavy bench press.
That definitely deserves to be said again. ;) Overhead work builds great athletes.

do you train alone, if not just ask someone else in the gym to spot you. Or you could avoid training to failure.

There's not always someone there, I work odd hours so I work out at odd hours. Besides, most of them are off in their own world. And i'm shy. ;) lol

He didn't say he wanted to hit the chest! :D
I agree, Bench! Even this young girl knows what you should do!!!

WHAT!!! :bang: :D
Get it out of your head that dips are mainly for the triceps, that is common mainstream bodybuilding bull. The dips will hit your chest just as hard as the bench press when you build the weight up. How can you dip with 60kilos around your waist for reps and not have a big chest??? You even mention that a lack of spotter is a problem......dips are a heavy compound chest movement that don't need a spotter...what could be better? :bang:
AND WHO SAID CABLE CROSSOVER MACHINE??????!!!!!!!!! :bang: :bang: :bang: :D
I'm going out now to pick a fight before my blood pressure boils.

Agreed. Embarrassed about benching? Bench until you embarrass everyone else! :D

I love the passion. lol And thank you for enlightening me to the fact that dips work peccs hard.

I used hate dips never did them and avoided them like the plague, and then I started gyming with my math teacher/ex bodybuilder he got me doing them. Hell I almost cried trying to get out of bed the next morning. It all got worse when I forgot to do my math homework...

Try flies. those work the chest area pretty good. Pushups are great. If you just want your bench press improved, working on auxillary muscles helps alot. Shoulders and triceps will improve your bench too...

Good to see you have a good sense of humour too. lol :D Flys are just about the worst exercise you can do for the chest, whether they are machine or free weight...they still suck. :)

And Arnold Presses would be primarily a shoulder exercise, not chest. So, different purpose, but still a nice movement.
