I am curious what people have in their video and paper libraries and what they would recommend or not recommend.
How about we Hapkido people make a list of what we have in our libraries and what we recommend for beginners, intermediate, and senior students to read and view, either for reference, learning or even fun.
If we get a good list going, we could ask to have it made a "sticky" and be the envy of other forums for our library.
For my library, I recommend (to start)
For all levels
-The ICHF basic video set, vol. 1-10, covers the basic requirements up to 1st dan. All are very well done and very well organized. A good reference.
Beginners
Hapkido: Korean Art of Self Defence (book) by Scott Shaw, a nice "quick and easy" intro to Hapkido. A good light read.
Intermediate
Master Melegrito's (ICHF) Defensive Stick and Knife DVDs
Master Pedro Rodriguez's ICHF basic grappling tapes (1-4)
Combat Hapkido rapping tape
Senior
This is the stuff I look at for fun and for getting the mind thinking:
Hankido DVD - covers the basics of the art and the footwork and variations will make you think a lot about what can be done in Hapkido
Hapkido Special Self Protection Techniques book by GM Myung Kwang Sik - Really neat book with references to a lot of stuff and variations on what we do. Well laid out and great pictures.

ICHF cane technqiues (vol.1 and 2)
Canemasters "basic" and "advanced cane techniques" videos

I would not want to define what is basic or advanced as that is subjective to the viewer based on their wants/desires for knowledge and past experiences in the arts.
I have a vast collection of ALOT of other material outside of Hapkido.

Damn Good Collection...
Hapkido texts:
Hapkido: Korean Art of Masters, Myung
Hapkido, Kimm (by far the most comprehensive and much better IMO in terms of technique and technique organization than the Tedeschi book)
Hapkido Weapons; the knife, Myung
Hapkido Weapons[/I[I]]; the cane, Myung
Hwarang Do Vol-3, Lee (introduces the techniques in virtually the same order as hapkido regardless of the name of the art)
Knife Defense for Combat, Echanis
Basic Stick Fighting for Combat, Echanis
Knife Fighting for Combat, Echanis
Hapkido videos:
Ultimate Hapkido Vol 1-3; Tae Jung (Though expensive for such short videos)
Hapkido vol5-10; Han, Bong Soo (The later videos in the series have more interesting material than the earlier ones. Jacket techniques are shown particularly well.)
There is lots of other stuff around but I couldn't see you possibly needing much else for the library if you had these titles.
In fact if you were only to buy the Myung book and Kimm book you would be pretty much set in terms of books.
Has anyone ever seen a good Dan Bong video?
I've heard that Geoffrey Booth's is good but have never seen it.
Are there any sources for Han Bong Soo doing weapons on video?

MJR,
I Like your list.
I agree with you, if you have GM Myung's Book and Master Kimm's Book you will have all you need for reference materials.
I also have the Full Hwarangdo series of Books By GM Lee and they are also a very good source.
I have the Mike Echanis Books and they are Great simple books,Mike's Books were the first to tell of Hwarangdo, prior to the Release of GM Lee's series.
As Far as GM Bong Soo Hans weapons,if you can get the Anniversary video his students do a Great demo of weapons it probably lasts 10 minutes and is very good, but I have not seen a GM Bong soo Han weapons tape, specific.
I have seen GM John Man So video in which he demonstrates a more Yawara type stick use (as it is much longer than the Dan Bong) but his use of it is very good and could be applicable to shorter stick or cane.
The ICHF had a good Dan Bong video and now they have new ones out by Master Moore I have not seen them, but there is a dan bong thread else where on here in which it is discussed,(Master Moores Background is Japanese weapons,he has researched the dan Bong, but in the other thread it was said Master Moores Dan Bong was more like Yawara)
Not that this Yawara type material is not doable, but when you use the stick at distance rather than close in it is more yawara than Dan Bong as dan Bong is a short stick used for close in work,Blocks and strikes, and can be used (as the Yawara )to make locks and throws but in Yawara the locks and throws are done with a longer stick in which the stick is the instrument,(like the cane)the Dan Bong is an instrument but it is used to reenforce the hand and arm as it is not long enough by itself to do those moves (It can be used as a hook alone,as in cupping the hand over say the triceps or shoulder area as in a Hammer lock)
I have not seen nor heard anything on Master Booth's video, but maybe someone on here has, maybe worth checking out.

For those intersted in some History of short stick application here is the Manual of Professor Matsuyama and his development of the short Stick Yawara as he called it,also known as the kubaton today.
http://www.yawara.com/Yawast1.html
Some may see links in the application as we employ the dan bong.
Yawara also means the gentle application and is applicable to longer stick work that employs blocks ,locks and throws as demonstrated on GM John Man So's video.
The short Yawara stick /Kubaton is not meant for gentle application, lol.

Greetings
Some of you guys really have quite nice collections, I wish I could borrow some of the tapes sometimes :D
Anyway the only HKD books I really endorse are the series from Hwang Sik Myung, because IMHO he cataloged the style of HKD I practice more or less.
He das a fairly new 5 book set from white to 1st dan its great forms aside.
Next to him I would say Dr Kimm's first HKD book, his scond book starts to deviate towards Hanmudo.
There are no other's worth while, Oh maybe Marc Tedeshsi's it's up to you?
I don't have Myungs tapes so I can't comment the Jin Jung Kwan DVD are very good reference in ther same style as I practice also.
I'm personally a big fan of the Bujinkan Ninjutsu, if I didn't do HKD that's what I'd be learning Fo Sho! I have quite a few Hatsumi tapes and books.
I completely concur on the idea that Kimm's first book "Hapkido", sometimes referred to as the "Hapkido Bible", is the one to get. It is the best of the 2 and there is not really any reason to get the second, "Hapkido II", unless you were a direct student of Kimm's, working in his system.

I have a very small library.
Korean Hapkido: Ancient Art of Masters by Kwang Sik Myung
The Art of Holding by Marc Tedeschi
The Secrets of Judo: A Text for Instructors and Students, by Jiichi Watanabe, Lindy Avakian
I love the Myung book. I'll second what Master Rosenberg said on that. The Hapkido in this book is pretty much the same as what I was taught, and how I teach it.
The Tedeschi stuff is pretty good as a reference I think. I would not recomend imitating his "style," but the guy is a really articulate writer and there are really good photos of tons of techniques. It really helps me to refresh my memory sometimes.
The Judo book I mentioned is pretty good too. I love "Judo throws" and this book goes into alot of the physics behind throwing that I have really found usefull.
Well, thats my entire library.

Dr Syn,
Those are nice additions.
I like the implemenattion of any of the devices be they Pro Tek or any of the other pressure point attack devices.
The Dillman pressure point controls video is Good.
I like the Cane Masters Street DVD.
If the Travel industry saw that DVD and what could be done with a cane,do you think the cane would be allowed everywhere as Master Shuey says,? LOL.
I had heard that some airlines were taking canes away and putting the users in wheel chairs, but I have read many recent posts that most airlines have no problem with the cane even some who carry Master Shuey's higher end canes with the pain notches, the blood groove and the pointed handle tips, lol.
