Thank you Ving .It somehow is but there are not ways to help to react fast.
Could high repetitions be the answer?...

High repititions as with weight lifting? No, your better of using high weights with low reps.
As for reaction time, with defences and strikes, I kinda have the idea that standard practice will do that.
Anyones else have any suggestions?

From what i have heard high reps with a lower weight works your twitch muscles better allowing you to move faster

Id say if you practice a certain move slow over and over again your brain will recognize it better and better thus you will be able to do it faster. Also if yo do the move or combo under water it helps since water is more dense than oxygen you will be able to do it faster but practice is needed for both of these techniques.

LOL I do kata in the pool and my g/f thinks I am nuts. She's right but my katas are sharper than hers :) BUT I'm not looking for speed improvements by doing this! Precision and muscle control is why I do it...

I believe that with doing high repetition practice, you will know the move better and better as you apply it.
Also under water could work ...if you find a pool, because it is not always summer-time.

Generally speed can be improved by improving your footwork. IMHO you can only hit with power when you have the correct body mechanics therefore your feet must in in the right place at the right time to get the right strike. Try skipping.
