living in new york city, my area has many ma schools. Despite this the variety is very small mostly tkd and fony karate(not meaning karate is no good just bad individual schools). A style im very interested in but can not study do to its absence is kickboxing.Even out of my area it is absent. The only one we have i can not get in touch with meaning it probably closed. The only other kickboxing we have is cardio(which doesn't emphasize real kickboxing). Does anyone have any advice for me so I can study kickboxing ie. similar arts and such.

check the dfferent schools there and sit in some classes, observe what you like and dislike. you may wanna check out for some muay thati and some kyokushin karate since those come close to kickcboxing

WOW!
Phil Nurse! Now THAT's a name I haven't heard in a long time - I used to train with him! So that's where he went - across the pond!

Try asking the Champ himself at www.superfoot.com
We are now a 'Superfoot' school.
He's a great guy, our students and parents really like him, and believe me he's good at his art, and I bet he'll answer your email.

Bill has a school in NYC? Cool! I've taught with him before at some seminars. He *is* a REALLY cool guy and a helluva good fighter. Don't let the "Superfoot" moniker fool you, he can KO you just as easily with his hands as his feet!

He was also apparently a pretty handy wrestler in his day as well.

I just looked on Bill's page under 'Schools', but don't see any in New York City. I'm suprised.
Yes He's good with hands too. He studied with Aizo Shimabuku,
Grandmaster of Shorinryu, Okinawa.
A friend of mine asked him how to be a better fighter than him. Bill said, "Eat lots of burgers, fries, and cokes".
He's fun to train with. He can come to your school and certify your black belts with a four day intensive, that's what he did at our school.

Yeah I have to agree with Khun Kao when he says that you're not looking hard enough, cbraves. If you're checking the yellow pages that's your first mistake, the listings there are always sparse, check out a lot of school directories and ask around at the other martial arts schools about kickboxing, they might be helpful. I'm in LA and I can find almost any fighting art within an hour of me so I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do the same in NYC.
