This kind of stuff depresses me... the more I go down the list, the crappier it becomes. These are the true enemies of society, the hatemongers. People who are so frustrated by their own shortcomings, that they project them upon different groups in society.

And another good example of how religion can be perverted to influence masses of people.

There are some truly disturbing quotes in that mix and others that are just ignorant. The unfortunate part is that these people in some cases have positions of authority and are actively seeking to fulfill these agendas.

This website should be shown to anyone ignorant enough to claim that "Muslims are terrorists", or similar. That's assuming that the individual is at least open-minded enough to understand the point being made.

And that isn't probable... :bang:

That was indeed a real good one... but there are some other gems on there as well, but they're probably a violation of TOS... so I won't quote them... :p

That is just a really, really scary bunch of "leaders". The idea that someone could be elected spouting that kind of hate is beyond me. And just think, the newest selection for the supreme court is considered to be one of the most conservative judges available for bush to choose. I'm glad I'm not living in the US proper anymore.

Kwaj: Not to worry.....when speaking about judges/justices, the word 'conservative' means that their judicial philosophy is one of restraint and originalism (i.e., the judge's job is to decide a case of constitutional law according to the merits of the case, interpreted through the original intent of the framers of the constitution).

"Conservative' in this case doesn't mean anything about Republican/Democrat, religious ideology, or pro/con any other issues.

Yes, but thats not to say that it can't mean those things.

I've just had a perverse thought (I'm full of them ;)):

It's possible they get away with it because they come from areas that are tolerant of intolerance. Oh such irony!

Indeed, for at least five days out of every week, intolerance makes the world go round. The other two days ussually feature world-wide drunken debauchery.

There is a secular American Taliban at the other end of the political spectrum.

Hmmm...

That removal of the cross is dodgy business, trying to re-write the places heritage, but it's still not quite "taliban"... It's dodgy but not in the same league as those quotes.
Although it wouldn't surprise me if there were a bunch of equivilant "lefty" extremists.

I find that first article slightly ridiculous. The author took 'the removal of a tiney cross from the LA county seal' and somehow interpreted it as 'the removal of religion, specifically Christianity, from American history; and the replacing of Judeo-Christian values with leftist ones'. He even used the word totalitarianism. I suppose it could be called emotive language, perhaps many Americans relate the word to their Cold War enemies.

Totalitarianism? Changing history? The Vatican anyone?
