I'd like to know why so many Grappling people are riddled with communicable skin disorders, that you need these things in the first place?

Rash guards keep you dry and cool while you are practicing. They are made of a material that wicks the sweat from your body. This provides a cooling mechanism with the surrounding air.
If you dont want to spend over $40 for a rash guard online or at the karate supply place, go to your neighborhood Sports Authority and pick up an Underarmour top. They make excellent rash guards.

But what is an under armour top? I dont think we have those in England. am I suppose to wear a rash guard under my gi, or is it an alternative to wearing a gi? stupid question i guess..but iam new to all this. :D

I thought about this after I saw you all were from UK, after I posted my reply.
Underarmour can be worn under your gi. American football players wear it under their uniforms. It will keep your gi drier and provide some cooling.
But, most guys wear rash guards when practicing gi-less BJJ. The material slides with less friction on the mat than bare skin does. Hence, no "road rash".

Kool thanks for the info dude. I will be visiting Hawaii next week, so hope to pick up a rash guard or under armour over there...But I like the look of those "gameness" rash guards, I dig the big dog on the back might have to get me one of those too!

Gameness rash guards are great - I'm a big fan of theit stuff. I have a rashy, vest, Gi and shorts - all Gameness.
