Whats with Jackie Chan movies?? They got really stupid. The Tuxedo and now The Medallion seems like they are the same movie just use different things give him the special power. I much prefer his movies where he isnt some super human..blah blah blah. And this medallion movie reminds me of the jackie chan cartoon. dont know who has see it but the run around collecting medallion that give them give them special powerand each one has a different power. Anyway does anybody else think Jackie Chan movies got dumb or is it just me??:woo:

I have to say that The Tuxedo was the first ever Jackie Chan film I've been disapointed in.
Computer Video trickery and Jackie Chan do not mix.
Not ever!

"Twin Dragons"
Dumb maybe, but some good entertainment and stunts.
No (makes sign of the crucifix) CGI!
He's older, and he's got nothing to prove.
Let the guy make some dough, he's worked bloody hard for it!

Generalising-
American audiences,
Don't want to watch Jackie Chan being Jackie Chan, that's why he has found it very difficult in the past (Not for want of trying) to break into the U.S market.
They don't get his 'Normal' movies, they're 'Too Chinese' 'Too Martial Artsy' etc and they don't get his love of comedy greats like Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, Keystone Cops etc-ironic really, being that they were Americans...
So Jackie had to go at it another way, pairing in big-Budget 'Buddy' movies, playing up the slapstick comedy and down the 'real' (Or seemingly more realistic) Martial Arts for the American Market and continuing to make other movies for his other Audience (Asia and the rest of us).
If in doubt blame the Americans....;)

I blame the Americans for everything anyway.

Hey now.....Quit picking on meee!
I enjoy almost all Jackie Chan movies. Especially his classic ones he done in the 70's and 80's. I grew up on them watching them every Saturday morning. I remember setting my clock to 2 o clock in the morning so I can watch them when they happen to come on.
Your right to say that not many Americans are in th the Jackie Chan or even Jet Li movies now a days. Thew would rather watch a movie of theirs if there is some other actor in it with them.
Others would like to see action movies with less comedy too.
My favorite movie of Jackie's would be Drunken Master II.

'The Tuxedo' sucked, even with both JC (hero) and JLH (babe) in it.

What? 'Twin Dragons' had some super cool action in it!
Been watching JC since the 80's and have always been a huge fan. In fact, my HKL disc of 'Project A Part 2' just arrived so I'm gonna go watch that :D

Jackie Chan - cool.
Bashing Americans - not cool.
I like all of Jackie's movies, even The Tuxedo. Heck, if it has Jackie, I'll watch it. And enjoy it. I know what the word "entertainment" means. It means if I forget that the outside world exists, that there are people running around make life miserable for others, the ozone layer and global warming, for 2 hours... then I was entertained. And Jackie is the king when it comes to that. Even though I enjoy his movies, I prefer his HK movies. I don't need to see him paired with Owen Wilson (he of the phallic nose) or Chris Tucker (he of the non-stop mouth) to want to watch his movies and enjoy them. Don't blame Americans.

I did say GENERALISING,
I'm talking about the 'Mainstream' American audience, not discerning Connoisseurs (of any nationality) who are Jackie Chan fans.

Yes you did, but the next gentleman blames us for everything... I mean really, what did we have to do with the Spice Girls?
Back on topic.. the heck with "mainstream" American (or any one else) the would not know a good martial arts movie if it came up and kicked them in the posterior.

I love Jackie Chan and his movies. However, I haven't enjoyed his last several movies---the American ones--the Rush Hours, Shanghai Knights, Tuxedo (that was really bad!)!! To me, it's like he's lowering his movie standards to do what he thinks will appeal to the American audiences! Not EVERY American enjoys watching raunchy sex scenes, and listening to bad language! Especially not me!:( The action scenes are almost always enjoyable but I definitly prefer his older movies to his latest ones.

Brad, don't read too much into that.
Bruce Lee had to die before you guys realised what you had, so then you let David Carradine in on it.
Jackie Chans been trying to break into Hollywood for years, compromising himself to fit into all that, when what he has/had is way beyond all that schmaltz.
Look at what the guy was doing twenty years ago with a twentieth of the budget, and all Hollywood would offer him was a bit part in 'The Cannonball Run'.
Who am I?

Is it over for Jackie?

Naw, it ain't over. He just need s to make HIS movies, not Hollywood's idea of a movie. I haven't seen his newest one, I believe someone said it was The Medallion? Which market was it made for?

USA.
The *beep* in the USA ruin everything! AHHH!!
I think Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2 were pretty decent, really. They are a pair of my favorite movies because they combine Comedy, which is a favorite of mine, and Martial Arts. A great combo, yet very difficult to combine well! But Tuxedo, Medallion, Shanghai Knights... stupid. I thought Shanghai Noon was all right, but still nowhere near as good as his HK movies =D
Jackie Chan is awesome!
HAHAHA Does anyone remember episodes of Dragonball where Master Roshi was participating in the World Martial Arts Tournament under the name "Jackie Chun" ? HAHAHAHA

Gotta agree with the above on New Police Story. All HK action. A little bit of wire work but not enough to dissapoint. Also an awesome fight near the end of the movie involving a kids fun parlour. Very cool stuff. Beats the hell out of anything he has done in America in the last, well since before the first rush hour.

If I had 1/10 of Jackie Chan's physical talent I would consider myself lucky.
One of Jackie's problems is that he didn't die relatively young with only a few tantalising films of his talents for us to view over and over again. I'm sure if Bruce was around for as long as Jackie he would have made some absolute stinkers eventually.

Hold on...its a BAD thing he didnt die at an early age ?
"i know what you meant..just j/k"
To be honest theres a lot of people out there who far, far, far, far surpasses Jackies physical abilities, even in his early days.
What makes him special is the way he uses it and his imagination and film making abilites.
There are filmmakers who dont do MA and make great MA based films, there are MAists who cant make a film to save their life.
He happens to excel at both. (with some ups and downs but thats normal)
I had one MAist who tried to audition for a stunt/small part and he couldnt even pretend like he got punched
...but he could do a wicked 360 spin kick....
he couldnt say ONE line which was "Oh No!"
.....but he could do a wicked 360 spin kick.....
he couldnt walk up to a chair and sit down without looking like a geriatric robot......but he could do a wicked 360 spin kick.
That boy would go far

Well Jackie Chan isn't growing any younger, and can't quite do the things he used to, but I'd still rather watch him than many other so-called MA action stars. The Tuxedo and Medallion were quite disappointing, but it's Jackie how can ya not love him. Hey butcher wing this New Police Story, is it actually a new movie or made in HK years back and just being released here now?

I think the problem Jackie is having is the same one Jean Claude Van Damme has..The independent movies like "Bloodsport" (comparison "Drunkenmaster", "Police Story II")were all good but the moment he got to Hollywood the essentials were taken out of the movies and now like with "Medaillon" and "Twin Dragons"(how come that reminds me of Van Dammes other movie "Double team" ?)he has become to Hollywood' ized. I mean, one condition of doing movies now is that JC has stunt doubles..he never needed them before. Now its because of insurance. The only thing he has kept are his own stunt team, which was used on "Rush hour" and "Rush hour 2". Which are to date his only good Hollywood films...
