I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on training the double jump kicks that Hapkido has. I suppose just doing them is practice enough, but I was wondering if anyone thought of any cool ways to isolate and train these kicks? For instance I've been using the back of a chair to support myself while I do the double side and roundhouse kick, etc. The kick that I'm really having trouble with is the scissor where you do a twist kick on one side and a side kick going the other way (kind of like the cover of Tedeshi's book except jumping).

I don't want to make this thread about the practicality of these kicks. So please do not post if that's what you want to talk about.

Greetings

I used to train by lying on the ground on my side and do the double kick motion with both feet together i.e. double side, round etc.

Double fronts just run and jump start low until you build up to high level.

Split kick is harder you need alot of flexability etc. train it at waist level and go higher when you can.

You may also be able to support yourself with a bar or chair to get the leg motion correct.

Use a mirror.

Also, I think you have to have an excellent grasp of the body mechanics of the basic technique and put alot of thought into how to translate that into your jump kick.

Use a crush mat for jumping split kicks.

Just run towards it, jump as high as possible, trying to bring your hips to the head level, and kick.

Just don't fly over the mat :)
