Whats everyones views on horsestance training?
How long do you hold it for and at what angle?
We've always got a staff across our thighs to make sure we are at the correct angle!

feet slightly further apart than shoulder width and pointing straight. Back straight and then bend legs to 90 degrees! I don't do specific horse stance training apart from maybe the odd spare 5 mins a few times a week! - I get bored!!
It is good for getting that fighting spirit - not giving up easily and all that!
I prefer to train by doing forms in low stances and also squat kicking sets - these are basically any kick but squat down and explosivly get back up and kick as fast as you can!!! A few sets of those and it does the trick!!

Start from a comfortable position, get as low as you can and hold it for a while, then relax. Try and be 1 inch lower each practice, where it is uncomfortable but not excruciating. And work on low stances whenever doing forms.
Repeat for a couple of years.

I do a few minutes of horse, dragon, front and guarding stances each session @ the house.
I'll also throw in lunge steps, squats and low stances during hyungs. The squat kicking sets really
makes a huge difference in the workout as well.
I keep my thighs parallel to the floor with knees bent as close to a 90 degree angle as possible.
You know you're getting some benefit when the knees start shaking :)

In our gradings we do every kick 10 times each side from low stance (parallel to ground) with 10 push ups 10 sit up after each set of 10 kicks then we go back to the first 6 kicks and bend our stances below 90 degrees making sure we place both palms on the gound before exploding back up to do 10 kicks each leg with no rest then straight into jumping...You know your legs are alive after that! With forms we always do low stances. Unless someone has an injury then we never have a high stance. There's too many people that chicken out of real training these days and always take the easy option.

Just during training, I make my stances as low as I can. When we go through forms slowly or I go on my own, I concentrate specifically on my stances to make them as low as possible. Once I've done Ki Cho Hyung a few times like that, I definitely feel the burn :)
