How long can one have a groin injury for? I've had a dull ache in my groin/inner thigh for about 8 months now. It isn't debilitating by any means, gets better with stretching and exercise, but it just won't go away. I have rested it for a few months but it's still there. A hernia has been ruled out by my doctor but I've never heard of a groin injury lasting this long.

Since it hasn't prevented me from doing anything it's full speed ahead but I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similiar and, if so, any advice on rehabbing this?

Thanks!!!

What did the doctor say?

Hi Thomas.

The examine ruled out a hernia and nothing seem out of the ordinary. He said there's a lot of ligaments and muscles in that area so it sounds like a light pull, especially since it reacts well to light exercise and stretching and as the ache does radiate down the inner thigh at times (which can be common with pulls in that area). He said I should continue to stretch and warm up adequately before any activity and consider physiotherapy as it's difficult to target the inner thigh/groin and so it may not be healing soundly without some rehab exercises, massage and stretching to specifically re-strengthen that area. In other words, just resting it may not be the best course to heal it.

Makes sense but I was just curious if anyone else has experienced a similiar injury for this duration and how long it took to rehab? I ask because I know my physiotherapist is going to pull the plug on my training until she feels like it is coming back 100% (she's very cautious but I have learned she's always right). I suppose I'll find out Monday but it's reassuring to know what timeframe to target for coming back based on what others have experienced for this type of injury.

I tore the adductor muscle in my left thigh about 3 years ago. it took a full 6 months to heal and to this day when I have a strenuous TKD workout, I will have a limp the next day. Believe me, jump scissor kicks are not something people my age should be doing.

Good luck with the healing! I imagine that stretching and working out is better than doing nothing... as long as the doctor approves.
