Hey Grifter,
This movie was awful. It was not even a full screen movie, it was like on a projector. About half the size of a normal movie screen. Obviously an independant film that a label picked up and then showed.
I would not pay a piss in a pot to see it again.
Save your money and buy something worthwile.

28 days Later was shot on Digital Video, not film. So the Resolution wasn't that high.
But it did have quite a decent budget for an independent film, about 12 Million Pounds- 20 Million Dollars. Which the Filmmakers put into Production Values like clearing large areas of London so that it looked deserted etc etc.
The Filmmakers (Danny Boyle, Andrew McDonald etc-Trainspotting, The Beach etc) wanted the 'Feel' of digi video to give it an immediacy and make it seem more real.
I haven't seen it-but as a Filmmaker am relatively up on these things. It made alot of money, because its initial budget was quite low, although 12 Million pounds is alot, budget-wise, for a British movie.

Have seen the film and really enjoyed it.
Don't buy it if you are after a Resident Evil? This is a bit of a 'thinker' rather than a 'gawper'.
There's a couple of themes in the movie which deal with our meddling with our DNA plus the looming proposition of a pandemic virus being released......
"Hey it could never happen!!.....right??"
SARS?? Foot in Mouth??? AIDS?? how long will it be before antibiotic defying, virulent strains are airborne and killing people indescriminantly?
Accident or intentional..... chances are it's coming and sooner than you think!!!
Scary?? Damn right!! Read between the lines!
P.s. pgm, if your a film maker worth he's salt get it just for the overhead shot of 3 miles of deserted motorway leading into a very much on fire and burning Manchester....Powerfull stuff!

28 days later is a fun film, operates on a few different levels. Got enough gore for you teenage slasher fan, same with some quite extreme violence.
As mentioned previously it is a film with a message, a quite disturbing one. For telling one way that the world as we know it could end.
I would highly recommend the film to anyone with a reasonably strong stomach!!
If you're a fan of traditional zombie movies (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, etc), then 28 Days Later is a must-see.

I really enjoyed it......it wasn't fantastic but innovative.....or as innovative as a cross between "the day of the triffids" and "night of the living dead" can be :)
Wearing grey is just too brainwashed by Hollywod to appreciate a decent UK movie ;)
Good (if not origonal) story, interesting message.....check it out

I thought it was a cult classic! I didn't see it in the cinema though, I watched it on Video (video store didn't have it on dvd :(). That said whenever I hype myself up for a film and have been looking forward to it for months it's always good!

LOL, Actually Stump, I believe your right. Well, I just have a very hard time understanding the British. The Britts have to talk real slow for me to understand.
Of course, if a Britt heard me talk, I would probably have to write down what I was meaning to say. My accent is so strong most Americans cannot understand what I say.
I think the big turnoff in this movie was the real low quality of the resolution and the screen size of the movie. It was just so odd looking at something half the size of a normal movie. To me, it almost looked pixelated.
I liked the plot of the movie, I liked the idea, but if I cannot understand a word they say, and the resolution is so bad I cannot fully taken in what is being shown, then it makes for a bad movie (for me).
I can see why other people like it though. My thoughts, are well, just that, my thoughts.
Take care,
WG

Wearing Grey......glad you picked up I was taking the p1ss!!! :)
They shot it on DV as has been said before. No way they'd have got the deserted London shots they did if they were shooting on normal film. Takes too long to set up and too much disruption involved......also apparently they did it for "the gritty urban look"
and they're probably cheapskates! If you've seen any of Danny Boyles other movies it may make more sense

Ok I finally watched it. And I liked it. Thought it was a great movie. I know I missed some stuff, so Ill probably watch it again. But Im happy I finally got to see it.
I think it's only just been released here in Oz... Don't know when I'll get to watch it, though. The Missus doesn't like 'scary movies'.

The scarryest thing in the movie was a ****ing car alarm.
The movie could have been better but it just sucked. Also come on... "The infected" we all ****ign new they were zombies, i dont think i heard the word zombie once during the movie..
Hail all to you, idenpendent horror-maniacs!! See "Tho house of the 1000 corps" by Rob Zombie. This is a true artism, ARTISM IN OUR FAVOURITE FORM! (Yes, the plot is very naiv)... ;)

I personaly thought this film was good, The start was interesting and kept me wondering what was gonna happen, but the ending wasnt too special for me.
Overall a good film.
I think i'm going to cry.
This film was for sure the SCARIEST thing i have ever seen.
I was TERRIFIED, and i generally don't flinch at horror movies.
Completely froze me to the seat.
I could have screamed when the first woman started puking.
I rember leaving the cinema and it was dark, and that scared me too.
Then we got talking about it. and that made me even more scared.
why do i want to cry???
Because i have it on dvd, and it is an awfull film to watch at home.
i just want to cry that it was AMAZING in the cinema. the best film i've ever seen. and when i got it on its dvd release date i was soo disapointed.
i'm happy i got to see it in its complete Scaryness. but for all you people who will only see it in a dark room with a tv and some friends. i cry.
this was months ago. but i was just sauntering through the forum when i spotted this.

Started off well. Soon trailed off into cliches and predictability. Not even slightly scary.

I actually made an entry in my journal (28 Days Later) after sdeeing this film...
... best thing about it was it was more of a British tourism film so I got to check out Lancaster/Manchester names of (locations of members here)....Waterloo Bridge, Piccadilly Circus, and the Haymarket.....
I am going to take stumps suggestion and check out Dog Soldiers.
Takes ALOT to scare me!
Dog soldiers is funny. but not horrific.
i though 28 days later was horrific. no splashy blood. but the overall feel. the gritty nastiness of it.
The acting in this film was great as well. and the cast was well chosen. relative unknowns so you really didnt know who was going to be next.
I'm beginning to get the suspicion that there was maybe something really british about it. i cant put my finger on it. but i can see how it might not have appealed to non-brits.
I've never seen a film that's been that scary. certain nothing hollywood has come close.
The ring was pretty horrible too tho.
I still cant get over how badly it translates onto the small screen.
crazy running zombies. yay.
KC, what's the scariest movie you've ever seen?

The movie was good, though it wasn't very scary. You basically knew what was coming (thats just me). Though, I enjoyed the film, it was different.

I really enjoyed the movie. Acting, plot, story telling were great. However, I wasn't scared. Never have been scared by a movie. Keep looking to find one that will. Anyone got a suggestion?
