Has anyone ever trained at the Northern China Shaolin Martial academy or know of any who have trained there?

I checked out the website for the academy, It looks pretty intresting and im looking foward to going there but I would first like to know if anyone has trained there so I can be headed in the right direction.

I know for a fact that the shaolin are no joke and are very strict thats why I want to go, I figure I can develop my gung fu and become a better person. I am young and strong and have all the time in the world to set out to china for a couple of years or even more to train since i just graduated highschool.

Any replies will be much appreciated

jbm,

I know of ppl talking about attending the school just like you.I think you would serve yourself better if you looked for a good school in your area.Shaolin is not the shaolin that it once was.The Govt runs most schools in China now.So what you get is usually Wu Shu.

Most masters left mainland China for Hong Kong or other countries. You will find some great masters here in the U.S. If that's what you want then go for it don't let anyone stop you.just don't get caught up in the Shaolin hype.

If you really want to learn kung fu in China. You can always go to China teach english and find a very good school.

Just a thought:D

Thanks on your input, I kind of figured that most of the shoalin schools currently in china are kind of watered down and not the way they used to be. I will consider looking else where or maybe I should just ask my last sifu about it, he goes over to china frequently and trains at a shaolin school there. He should know best since he is grandmaster of ling gar hakka family style, and is a great teacher.:)

If you really want to train in China.I would look towards Hong Kong.I'm sure you can find legit Shaolin training, but where do you start with like 600 schools around the old temple? Even then most of them have over 1000 students.I've heard of one that has like 4000 students ,but it is wu shu.

I know someone on another forum that spends alot of time in China.I'll ask him what he thinks or has heard about that school.

I stayed there for 1 year and only because of one master who is excellent, he has now opened his own school in Yantai, shandong province, i would advise you to go there no advertising please check the site out. Because it has not long started the school is still in early stages and there is only 5 students at the moment.
Northern China Shaolin...... i would not advise anybody to go there, training is no good, food is bad, management just after your money and treat you bad, the place is no good.
any more Qs. just ask me.
