Hello there guys!
I'm Gary and I only just came across this site. I'm very pleased that I did though. :D
Ok, here's the thing. I'm a former TKD stylist living in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England (yep, another guy in th UK) and I really want to get back into training. But not necessarily the same style. I remember buying a couple of John Richards videos some years ago, and was very impressed by what I saw. It's difficutl to describe, and would take too long really.....
Basically, does anyone have any info on schools in my area that are any good? Mainly Shotokan is what i'm thinking, though i'm open to suggestions.
cheers,
Gaz :D

Cheers,
Gaz :D

Hi :D
I don't know who's in your area other than Kim stones. TKD mate.
I'll put the word out and see what I can find.
Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the assist Andy!
Yeah, I am naturally aware of Master Stones because it was with him that I achieved my first Dan in TKD. I don't wanna' go into why I stopped training with him, certainly not on a public forum such as this. Though in private, I have told anyone who has asked just what happened....anyway, that's another story.
I'll check out the link there and once again, i'm very grateful to you. Just shows how someone who understands the internet can find these things. lol!
cheers,
Gaz :)

No problem Gaz,
Just typed "Shotokan" into Googles search engine, and then searched for "Doncaster" within those results.
Do let me know how you find this lot, as I have a big mate in Doncaster who's been looking to get back into training too. Names Adrian, and he sort of Stewards for Electro Music on Copley road.
As to politics, they're a bit like joint problems. If you've not experienced them, then you haven't been training long enough! :D

Yeah, Andy. I'm am frankly sick of the politics. It totally spoiled things for me (and my family who all trained) I'm looking into different things at the moment. Including possibly training with an old friend and former collegue, Andy Crittenden. He too has fallen foul of politics.
Yep Kobudo, Kim Stones seems well known everywhere abouts. But NOT always for the right reasons!! :(

All the same Gaz,
it's best not to be so specific in naming people on a forum.
Word has a way of getting round.
That, and I know a seasoned member here, who is one of Kim's mates!
Try not to keep picking the scab off, or the scar may end up permanent. ;)

You are absolutely right Andy and I apologise for be a bit too specific!
At the end of the day, one thing i'm very grateful for is getting my blackbelt with him. That was a major achievement for me.
I think your analogy of a scab is quite ap. Anyway, thanks for the heads up on that one and I shall not make the same mistake again.
Thanks for making me welcome here too. It's so nice to be surrounded by people who share my love of Martial Arts.

Hello Garu_San.
This post may be coming a bit late, but I only just had it forwarded to me.
I teach Shotokan to private students in Doncaster but I know of a good school on Clay Lane that teaches on a Friday night.
If you're still looking then get in touch and I'll put you in contact.
Regards
Grant.

You can mail me at grant@combative-arts.com Gary.
I live in Doncaster & have trained with the school I'm recommending.
They seem to be a good club and are definately old school Shotokan.
In case anyone stumbles across this thread, there is a Shotokan club in Doncaster (United Kingdom) - their website is at:

I just wanted to voice my concern about politics in the martial arts.
My view is this :- Masters of a style should strip people of improper character the right to teach their style.
Is it no wonder that old masters of martial art's used to vet students to there sutability and character to train.
Unfortunatly its now the age of Mcdojo, come on in pay us your money
training fee
uniform
licence
insurance
grading
competiton
ect.ect
Thats right pay us the cash, it doesnt matter if you use the club as a pickup bar. (or to get near too young girls/boys)
Or you're going to use those neck strikes on people, too show ure a hard man.
Or how about this, ill buy you a pint if you go easy on my grading.
Sorry for affending you decent martial artists out there, I just wish these type of people were expeled permamently from the martial art family.
