Our city only has two gyms to choose between; they offer Tae Kwon Do and Karate. I wish to start training at one of them, but I am not sure which of the two I should go to.
Can anyone suggest which gym I should go to, or any pros and cons that I should be aware of between the two styles?
Thank you very much.

Try them both - stick with the one that makes YOU happiest

Yoda had given you the best advice anyone can... try 'em both and go with what makes YOU happiest.

Does it generally cost anything to go and try the gyms? I didn't think you were allowed to without paying? But thanks for the idea, if I can, I'll see them both.
Much appreciated, guys. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

A lot of schools in my area will give a free lesson or two. But if the dont give any free lessons at either of the school I would think that the would at least let you watch.

I'm sorry, but moving is not an option.
I shall see if the instructor(s) offer a free trial lesson or if they would let me watch one or two. Thanks for the tips. I am sure they will be very useful.
Cool picture of Bruce Lee. "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do"?

If an instructor is interested in getting you as a student, he'll give you a free lesson or two. Ask, can't hurt.
Why such an interest in free stuff? I don't give free lessons at all but I'll let a prospective student watch a lesson for free. I like the adage 'get what you pay for' and $10 for 2 hours is cheaper than a movie.

Because if you can get a free lesson why not take it. you will get a better idea for the class.

I think everyone's first lession should be free lets people know you are interested in having them come to your club. also it isn't cheaper than going to the movies well not if your a student :D

Hmm....I dunno, I pushed myself way too hard in the first class itself trying to be macho when my instructor told me to take it easy, the next day I was sore as hell, I was almost put off by it had my freind not convinced me....but now I like it 'cause I got used to it, but if that class was a free class.....I would have quit and not joined that one.....maybe a free class does'nt exactly give a good impression of the dojo for first timers...
Just trying to see different perspectives :)

BOLLOCKS :D
I give 2 free classes to any propesctively new student. Sometimes MA is not what people expect, sometimes they come looking for a fitness class with techno and boxing gloves. :P
Free classes ensures people try something new, at the end of the day what have you lost if you haven't enjoyed it.nothing.
I give them thier first taste for free, then they are hooked and come back for more untill they become dealers..... I mean instructor themselves

I'm not really too worried about making a good impression on the instructor. I don't think there could be anyone in this town better than me.
Would it be better then to take a free trial offer if given one after you have tried out the dojo? Has anyone had an instructor beg them to join their club?

I'm quite certain no-one has ever had an instructor beg them to join..well not a good instructor anyway

I tried a couple of dojos before i picked the one im at now!
and the one im at now was the one that gave my Daughter and I our first lesson free!
I think it works well.
The sensei said " if you dont like it then go home and no harm is done if you do like it then we'll see you again next week" it made me feel valued and welcomed I liked that..

If an instructor bagged me to join That would turn me away from the school.
