In my school a couple people use ankle and wrist weights while kicking and doing drills. I have heard people say that it is bad and others that it is very beneficial.
I was wondering if it was safe and if it would improve speed and power?
btw, I'm 14

Yes it does help, your body gets used to the weights, so when you take them off your kicks will still use the force that they did when you had the weights on, it helps to build up your muscels also.
If you're 14, it may not be wise, your muscles are still growing, weights could damage them.
I think kickboxers do this before tournaments, so they can kick faster

I hope they are not doing them full force. You only use ankle weights for slow reps. Otherwise, you may pull, tear or injure something seriously.

I belive ankle weight have no place in martial arts training.
The resistance is insufficient to achieve much and the direction of resistance is in the wrong direction.

I’m 16, Is it a good idea to wear ankle weights while running a mile? Also is there any benefits in speed and leg musculus?

If you wanna run with weights, use a proper (not one with Snoopy/Pokemon/etc. on) backpack (rucksack you U.K. people call them?) with some light weight in. This is only any good for endurance IMO.

Personally, I have bad knees so I use weights with slow reps to help strengthen my legs. Now I have seen more professional MAs use weights in slo mo doing their kicks. It is said it helps make your legs stronger and faster when you take the weights off. No I would not sling any part of my body with weights, it would cause damage. My jogger friend uses hand weights when she runs to help prepare for races. No leg weights. It's up to your descretion. Maybe walk but not run.

I used to use leg weights for different leg exercises and when doing crunches/sit ups and it did feel as though they were working my legs and stomach more but I never used them for a long enough period to see any results

They only make you feel faster when you take the weights off because you were slower when you wore them, get it? Like yoda said the resistance is in the wrong direction. You will only get stronger hip flexors and the only part of your kickthat may be stronger is the chamber, or maybe knee strikes?
Well whatever ankle weights claim to do i can think of better ways to train that work better.

For god sake there has only just been a thread like this..In fact it was called ankle/wrist weights.

The only benificial way I have found to use ankle weights in in doing scissors or similar exersizes while on your back. When kicking, if not done slowly you can hyper-extend you knee easily and you exert a force upward, not toward where the kick is headed.
Always wondered about this... what if you wore to ankle weights above your knees? force would still be in the same direction, anyone have any opinion wether this way would be benificial or not?
