Kobudo - "weapons way"? not in my back yard it isn't

Just had a look at the "Glossary" section and I instintively made my way to "K" for "kobudo"

It says kobudo translates as "Weapons Way".

Kobudo translates as "Ancient Martial Way", not "Weapons Way". It may MEAN weapons way, but it doesn't translate as that.

This is one thing I'm sure of....I think... :D

No, you're right

The breakdown is:

Ko: Ancient/old

Bu: Martial

Do: Way

With respect to the Okinawan arts it means the weaponry aspects. But in Japan it refers to something different, namely "old" styles, with or without weapons.

"Ryukyu kobudo" would be a weapons style though.

Glancing through the glossary there are a few other errors. I'll go through and make a list later, of the japanese terms at least.

They're pretty close for the most part, and get the general idea across. But little things can cause confusion.

Like "Kobudo" being listed as "Weapons way", usually that is what is meant, but there are a whole group of Japanese arts which are "kobudo" that have nothing to do with Okinawan weaponry and involve empty hand stuff as well.
