Im looking to gain about 20-30 pounds. But i havent been successful in gaining more than a pound or two doing thing like I normally do. So does anybody have any good way to gain weight. what types of foods should I be eating stuff like that. Im only 17 so i would have a pretty hard time keeping to a strict diet but any advice is good. thanks

you may have a high metabalism that results in using a lot of calories for energy, never the less, you can still gain weight. Im assuming you mean muscle weight and not weight in general? If its muscle, then you have to modify the foods you eat and how often you eat them.
1. Stay away from junk food. Eat healthy foods such as chicken breast, tuna, vegatables, fruits. Some fish are high in protein and high in fat, so be careful there. Limit your soda intake. Drink plenty of water each day. The norm is 6-8 glasses of water a day. Eat 5-6 small meals throughout your day balanced out with veggies and some form of protien.
2. Whats your workout routine like? You might have to go heavier on the weights. Or try different exercises. Bench presses, squats, deadlfts should be a mainstay of your routine.
3. Hopefully you are not working out everyday. Your body will need plenty of rest to recuperate. The minimum is usually 2 days between same bodyparts and up to 3 sometimes 4 days between others. Basic routine could be to exercise every other day. For example- Mon-Wed-Fri. Splitting up your workout for those days.
4.This is just a basic routine. There are MANY more routines to use to gain size. You have to find out what works for you.
5. If all you are after is to gain weight in general, Then eat more than you are now.

this is my workout out routine.
Stretches=10min
50 pushups
100 jumping jack
30-40min on the heavy bag
rest
bench press=115pounds 8rep 4sets
incline bench press=100pounds 8rep 4sets
Butterfly=55pounds(each side) 10reps 3sets
nest day:
Stretches=10min
50 pushups
100 jumping jack
30-40min on the heavy bag
rest
curls= 60pounds(two-hand curl bar) 8rep 4sets
reverse curls= 50pounds(two-hand curl bar) 8rep 3sets
sometimes i get lazy and wont do anything more than push ups(various types) and stretch.but im getting better about doing it routinely. I do make sure to get plenty of rest becuase i know your muscle grows while you rest and not while you are working out.
im not able to do much more than those exercises at home. Only others i can do are leg curls.
to me all the weight amounts i listed are pathetic and weak but i guess its not so bad seeing as i only way 120pounds.

Best wishes to you, Grifter.
At age fifteen, I am six feet tall, and I practice my nunchakus for hours, work out, and practice my style. I live pretty actively, even for the summer, and I weigh 125. The kinds of foods I would suggest are those with high calories and even slimfast, or something along that line. Instead of using the slimfast as a meal, drink it between meals, as an addition to your previous/upcoming meals.
I hope this helps.
If anyone has any ideas for foods that may, with daily exercise, build muscle mass, I would very much appreciate it.

Erm, I commend you on wanting to achieve your size. You seem to forget however that you are only 17.
Building size takes time and at your age more development is happening with your bone structure than muscle. This builds the framework that your muscles will then fill. You will probably find, if you continue to train dilligently and eat healthily, that in your twenties you will start to 'fill out' that frame. Don't worry about what size you should be, as some people have posted, as there are many factors which affect that. Instead just continue what you are doing.
I am 5'7" and when I was 19 was only just over 9st. It took me a couple of years of hard hard training to get to 11st. Now I'm 29 and weigh in at 13st 7lb and I train hard. I am a hard gainer but the fact I do so much training which isn't resistance based makes it even harder. My intaken calories go towards helping me recover from my 2-4 hours of MA training in the evening rather than build bulk. Eat more, train hard and sensibly.
Don't get too hung up on your weight as you are young and have plenty development time.

If my wrist is fully healed I'll have over 4 weeks to do a 14lbs bulk.
Grifter don't be scared if you put some fat on when bulking. It happens to some pple. That said I don't know how I'd react if I had a little flab on me *cringe

Sorry Matt_Liquid but if the weight you are gaining is quality lean mass from conventional, non-steroidal means then I'll eat my hat.
I don't know many, if any at all, body builders who could do what you are asking of yourself.
sorry if I upset you but it seems an incredulous statement to make.

Of course it can be done lol. I hope you like the taste of your hat.
I've been lifting for two years and as long as I consume around the 180 grams of protein a day It is very possible. I will do zero cardio. Lots of heave squats and deadlifts.
I know from experience that I can do it. The only thing which could stop me is my wrist.
In the past I've just added a full serving of N-Large2 to my diet and have added 7lbs.
Do you honestly think it is Impossible to gain 3lbs a week. My goal is 154lbs 11 stone and at the mo I'm 142lbs 10stne2 I'm 5ft10 and have plenty of room to fill out. I am only getting about 80grams of protein currently and I'm still gaining muscle even though I havn't lifted for 10 weeks next Monday.
here's my pic,

Nice pic - I can see why you want those 14lbs :Angel:

Seeing as your doing zero cardio then i will say that it is possible. I was going on the assumption (and I know the quote about assuming things ;)) that you would also be doing a fair bit of MA training which would eat into the calories required for building quality mass.
You might want to start adding some thickness to those muscles though :Angel:
