Ace is not exactly how I saw it - looks like the poor guy broke his neck.

I wish I could find out who/ where/ when / if he's ok :(

Apparently it was from "Rich Clementi's first Whoop Ass Wednesday show in Slidell, LA" - there's a 13.5mb highlight vid, with sicko slo mo, at...

http://www.badbreed.tv/webvideos/WAW%20I%20Highlights-1.wmv

Doesn't give any indication of the outcome though. Looks like one fo those events where they just throw the local nutters in the ring to see what happens.

Yowch!,
I hope that he was okay, nasty twist of the head as he landed.

With all respect to the victim, should he of been fighting?
He looked like he didn't have a clue...

Download the full highlight clip - it's one of those "tough guy" events where they just put lcoal hardcases in there for a scrap - looks like someone sneaked a wrestler in there

What kind of a competition is that? Nobody uses kicks.

gives martial arts in general & MMA in particular a bad name

hard enough to convince the public that pro MMA is one of the most skilled sports around, without throwing muppets with little training or brains in a ring & saying "on you go then"

really hope that guy's OK

Hey thats cool, I dont want MA to be commercialized. Look at what the Olympics did to TKD and Judo.

I aggree that the arts can lose out to the pound sign in some schools, and it's a shame if they lose their roots due to rule changes to make them look more appealing to the casual watcher. I still standby the fact that the majority of MMA Fighters & fans want rid of the "Blood Sport", "There Are No Rules" and instead want it to be recognised as a very technical, skill full (though sometimes brutal) sport.

I hope the guy was OK. Seems like there should be a happy medium between 'too much rules' and 'too many pussies' that hasn't been reached here... owch... *cringe*...

Okay,
we're all agreed that it was an impressive but very nasty takedown.

An open question, just as a survey-

What would YOU have done to defend yourself in such a position and get out of it without getting dumped head first into the canvas?

YODA

........ defended the clinch better & not immediately given the guy double underhooks.

Hooked a leg or sank my hips as I felt him going for the lift

squeeled like a little girl & begged for mercy as soon as my feet left the floor :D

Ditto what Yoda said, hopefully I would be the one using the clinch but
Definatly sink when you feel him sneak under for the lift,if the lift had started I would have tried to stay as close to his body as possiblegetting some sort of catch and rotated with the throw.

Personally not keen on the "what if" cause its not me and I wasn't there.

How about, 'Not being in the bloody ring to start with.' ;)

I've seen that happen to guys on mats and be wrecked by it, that was a ring for christs sake!

If that'd been concrete his head would've cracked!

That guy was completely out of his depth though, you can see that. The problem with these local hard man/iron man/big balls competitions is that virtually anybody can enter them.

I agree with free form i would have told them to sod off and not gotten in the ring in the first place!

Injuries happen even in the dojo but at least when you are training the Sensei and instructors are so well trained that injuries are very few and far between!

However if you get in a ring with a guy who thinks he knows what hes doing and you are asking for trouble.

I will only ever use my training to defend myself! i have no interest in competition!
For those of you that have then please be careful!

Mark
