Hi all,
I have heard that a Gull Wing choke hold is supposed to be 'impossible' to break out of.
I am not entirely sure what one is, I presume its some sort of ground move.
can anyone enlighten me as to what one is and how it works(does it literally choke the person?) but more importantly, does anyone know how to get out of one.
thanks in advance.

I will cut down after this one - I don't want to come across as a "newbies who flood the forums with rubbish"

Any choke or submission is escapable or inescapable! It all depends on the 2 people scrapping, their skill, experience and who gets the drop first!

HI I agree with you
Lets assume that the skill of the person doing the hold is high, even with this, quite a few of the "holds/locks" can still be got out of.
I.e. no matter how good the technique is done they are still not difficult to escape from (obviously I only mean with some of them)
Also I have tried a google search but the only matches I get are car ones - deloren, chokes (in the context of engine) and gull wing doors. etc lol if I trie in quotes i get no matches
can anyone help?
This gull wing thing is suppoesed to be inescapable and it intregues me.
thanks

There's a major flaw in that view. These locks are designed to break joints or otherwise cause damage. It's not a case of getting out of them - but preventing them from being applied. If it's on - it's ON!

I agree fully that its all about stopping them from being applied and that when most of them are on then there is (probably) no real way out of them (except maybe for advanced internal martial artists out there - which 99% of us are not -myself included) but even if some of them (the holds/joints) are still on they are not as effective on some people (who have flexible joints)
for example
An on the floor armbar hold (where they bend your arm across there chest putting pressure on the elbow joint.) doesn't work on me and I can just rotate my shoulder joint as I reatract my arm and 'slide' it free (done on me by a sensei) - mind you the wrist ones work on me very well; I scream like my little sister with those :D
you all know much more about this kind of stuff than me and I know that once they are on they are on (generally) but most of you have probably experienced students who are not effected ,or only effected a little by some of the holds/locks because of joint flexibility - I do realise that these people are in the minority - (I am not one of them except for shoulder/elbow ones)
I agree when they are on - its over! (generally).
But does anyone know what the gull wing choke hold is I cannot find anything saying what it is and I have looked. If anybody has any idea/Url's/ pictures (lol ok perhaps the pictures are a bit unlikely!)
please let me know.
forgive my ignorance Yoda. My excuse is that I'm new.

Nothing to forgive - ignorance is a good position to be in sometimes. It means you can go forward :D

Gull Wing Choke - it could be a variation of the clock choke. One of the hardest chokes to escape - Royce Gracie was beaten with it by Wallid Ishmael
Problem is the clock choke is complicated to get on a resisting opponent, there's whole tapes devoted to the thing.

True - and without a Gi or jacket it's not really applicable
BUT - It's a helluva choke :p
Care to post a link to some pics?

Looks a lot like the choke we use in Danzan Jujitsu for our Ko Garuma Technique (counter to Mizukuguri).
