My biggest Fear .... fear of heights! I did manage to make it up to the top of the World Trade Center once.... and I nearly had a panic attack...

My own personal "Fear Factor".....
Last year I faced my fear hanging by a steel cable and I zip lined 250 feet above a Costa Rican rain forest.

I'm still scared:eek: (maybe that is why I can't jump so high!! :p

.... so any of you other martial artists fearful... c'mon fess up!

Roller coasters. I almost died on one when I was in the 1'st grade. i was about 65 pounds and i had to sit next to my dad who was 300+ pounds on a traditional "bar restraint" coaster. during the big dip at the beginning i could have easily slipped out and fallen to my death. havent ridden one since. hopefully i will b4 i die.

I used to be scared of Roller coasters and heights, but I'm not anymore. I went on some roller coasters a few weeks ago, that cured my fear of those, and now I really like them. My fear of heights got cured when I went mountain climbing and abseiling for the first time. I found its not much use being frozen with fear when you're hanging by a rope 200 feet up a rock face.

... similar to when I went zip lining.... you are harnessed up to a cable by a 'leather thong" ... Yeeouch! .... and then you step on a platform attached to a tree and this guy just sends you sailing for about 100-200 ft to the next platform and so on and so on 250 ft above rain forests with icky spiders snakes, monkeys.... the terrifying part is standing on this platform which encircles this tree and is only about 3-4 ft. wide, where several people await the next "push". At one point we had about 5 people on there and I froze, I just couldn't move over for the next guy zipping towards our tree to land... although I was attached to this cable I still could slip and dangle from that height! Also disn;t help my fear that most of the people standing on that small 3-4ft platform were overweight... I just prayed that the wood wasn't rotted out!

Isn't unusual the types of fears that people have? What makes us fear the things we do??

I have a deep visceral fear of letting out inveterate secrets. You know when you're waking slowly from REM sleep and someone's trying to talk to you, and you're talking total nonsense? You could let out something really deep and personal...that's the one greatest fear I could never deal with.
Emotions...
-TkdWarrior-

I second that fear TKD Warrior...people showing deep raw emotion totally freaks me out. I'd say it's more revulsion than fear though.

And fear itself...that's in my normal state though, fear goes out the window 'in the field' - adrenaline makes you go numb mentally as well as physically.

Ok I hope this won't scare anyone off cuz it might sound a bit depressed, but hey... I'm not ok? :D

Eversince I was a little girl I am training to be as perfect as I can in my passion. Karate and specifick kata.
I used to do both but since a few years I only do kata.
And from the time I've been training so hard, every day, there has been laid a pressure on me. And that pressure brings along a fear, a fear not to fail.
My fear is that I fail and that I won't be succesfull enough.
But hey... I think everybody has that fear a bit inside of them, right?

being alone and unhappy

That's a sign of a deeper problem man...

For me, it's brain damage or anything of the sort. With getting a limb chopped off, or paralyzed, I can still do something. But with brain damage, weird crap happens, like memory loss, loss in cognitive abilities, co-ordination loss, etc. It would almost be like dying, but without the peaceful sleep part.

Okay, I've got a couple - heights don#t impress me, nor flying insects, or insects in general for that matter. However the largest is easily...

DOGS.

Man, I can't stand them - I always think they are going to bite my nether regions or hands. I will cross the road if I see one, and generally keep away as much as possible. Quite amusingly I was in a friends house the other day, and his dad had these two tiny dogs. My mate said, (They have never bitten anyone.) I kid you not, I took a step into the house, and the little blighter started growling at me. I didn't move from the front door for about five minutes, with this tiny dog growling, untill my friend came out, said, 'What the *** are you doing? His jaws aren't even big enough to bite you!' I managed to get through, but my heart was racing...

I don't like pain I can't control, and I have a fear of getting my nose broken whilst sparring and not looking so pretty any more!!! (Its actually true...:D)

Wasps and ther big flying stinging/biting things (hornets, horseflies etc). Not bees though. Silly really as a wasp sting probably hurts about as much as burning your han don the oven and I'm not afraid of cooking. But they make me act extremely irrationally and embarrassingly. Ugh. The gits.

Surprised noone has said flying. I used to be fine with it and am getting to be ok again, but for a few years it has made me quite nervous. Boozing helps.

If I ever see one I totally fliP!!!!!

I used to be afraid of arachnids. Then one time I was thinking about Greek monsters which were eagles with the heads of humans and I asked myself, would I fear spiders if they had the heads of humans? Or would I fear them if they had eyes I could look into, like a human's? No. What I fear is their ENIGMA. Then I thought, I'm attracted to that quality in human males,(that's why I like Keanu Reeves...those ice-cool emotionless eyes...ooooohh, lovely)so why fear it in arachnids??? I have never been afraid of them since that little philosophical musing. Logic over emotion, guys.

What is the logic? When you are dealing with something that can think for itself you are dealing with the unknown for the simple fact that you cannot predict the precise future. I have never been scared of a spiders eye's it's the bitey bits that worry me. :D

woot... i'm scared of moths and butterflies too.. was in the dojo and a big b*gger flew in at which point i wimpered and hid until my training partner threw it back out the window (he just PICKED IT UP, that's just wrong) he's a nice man!
though i did get taunted for being the worst ninja ever!! :D

i'm also scared of fish, and water and knives (but only when other people have them)

the first too are cope able with, i'm getting abit better with water, my boyfriend is helping me and i atchually managed to go in the pool on holiday. It was only for 5mins, i hated every second, and stayed withing my depth and 6 inchs from my bf but it counts! more than i could think of doing a year go

knives is wierd especially when we do defenses against them. They are the most pointless tecnique for me cause i know if someone attacks me with one 'll either run and freeze or just throw up on the attacker :/

Biggest fear: Not having any control over my own body. Which is why I freak out if someone's trying to spontaneously throw me. Second biggest fear: spider webs. I don't mind spiders as much, because I can get away from them. Sprider WEBS, though..they're sticky and they get in your face and hair and they're really strong to break. However, a huge spider web is fascinating...provided that the actual spider isn't that big!
