Hi all.
I just moved to Federal Way, Washington. I've scoured the yellow pages and the internet looking for a Hapkido Dojo in this area. While there is no shortage of Taekwondo dojo's, I've yet to find a Hapkido one.

The one hapkido dojo I did find in Federal Way, turns out the master commited murder a few years back. I have no idea if the school is still in business or not.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm leaning towards Hapkido because I like the soft/hard handling concept, unlike Taekwondo, which is mostly only hard handling. I would also prefer Hapkido over Aikido because I'm Korean and I think in this way, I could learn a little more about my culture.

Thanks in advance.

definitely check out Master Mix in Redmond. I study at one of the satellite schools in Ellensburg and was actually just there on Wednesday. He offers HapKiDo, TKD, Aikido and Tai Chi. Very reputable and excellent instructors. Our GM is GM Myung, Kwang Sik. There are a few other satellite schools around Seattle as well. Good luck.

I'm not trying to hound anyone, but this Ajmma12 character is all over the internet pushing the Dillman thing everywhere he goes.

"Caveat Emptor" is all I'm going to say...

JKSWISS - I used to live at Fort Lewis. I just moved to South Korea a month and a half ago, and depending on how things go, I'll be heading back to Fort Lewis eventually. I love WA...

At any rate, one of the attorneys I worked with about a year ago is a black belt at a hapkido school in Fife (I think). The school has a number of satellite schools all around the area, 4 total I think but I can't really remember (I don't do hapkido).

If you are still unable to track down the school, email me at wolfden68@gmail.com, and I'll happily contact my contact and get you in touch with their training.

Good luck.

No experience with SHA, but they have a neat website (http://www.seattlehapkido.com). That seems to be the closest dojang to you, something like around 5 miles or so from you.

How far are you willing to travel? All other HKD dojangs seem to be at least 20 miles or more away from you.

Btw, have you heard anything about Master Choe lately? Wasn't his trial just recent? (He was the one who killed another Korean with a samurai sword.)

Nah man, heard nothing about Master Choe. I thought I hit the jackpot when I found his site. Then I come to find out he gone done did murder!! I was like wth??! Thats not good.

I like Enso's site. I don't know anything about it first hand though. SHA seems like its more based on personal training. Being a broke student, I can't finance that kind of stuff.

I have to weigh my options with the two centers. Ones a 40min drive, the others like a 10 minute drive...Hmm..

BTW, are you in the Seattle area Juego Todo?

I believe Shelby Shearer is near bellevue. You might want to contact the WOMAF headquarters http://www.womaf.com/ and see where the closest WOMAF instructor is to you. I honestly believe that they offer the best training possible.

Too bad about Master Choe. If not for that, it would've been a hardcore dojang to train at.

By Enso, I guess you mean: http://www.enso-center.org/hapkido.html

Did you check out Black Eagle Society HKD?

I'm not in Seattle, but I've got rels stationed there in the Navy.
