Does anyone know any good links to some good Silat sites that show some silat techniques? I have seen some tecniques that look very similar to Filpino empty hand stuff.

Well, I've got a couple of vids on my website at http://impactacademy.com

But bear in mind that FMA and Silat have a lot in common. They're from the same geographical region and the same ethnic group (Malay people). There's been quite a bit of exposure between the two regions.

It depends on which specific systems of FMA and Silat you compare, but many have a lot of similarities between them. Generally, the biggest difference is one of "flavor" or of "mindset/attitude" more than in the technical aspects.

It seems I don't have the proper encoder to play your videos.

Ahh. Well, they're WMV files. I think you can find players and such for that format as free downloads. You might try the microsoft.com website (WMV is the Windows media format).

Some silat systems are pure weapon systems (if I remember well some styles of the Setia Hati branch), but usually in Silat weapons are considered as extensions of the hands... in Arnis empty hand fighting derives from weapon techniques...

In traditional silat you won't learn armed combat in the first years of your training which isn't the case in Arnis.

There are some basic silat video shorts on my site: http://www.combat-silat.net These aren't so much techniques as they are training methods that we use.

Hormat saya.

I am on the south side. I live in St. Cloud temporarily (renting). I work in South Orlando, but I have interested people from a few areas of Orlando that might want to meet if we can find a place...

Would this be a class setting, or private training setting.

Salam;

That ultimately depends on the people involved. Some have expressed interest in private training, but most people can't afford to do that so it's likely it would be group training.

How would I know when you are ready to take on a class?

Salam;

First please tell me what your interest is. Private, Semi-private, or group?

Then, the next thing is to give me the broadest range of possible times you could be available.

I will contact the others who have expressed interest shortly and see what we can arrange.

Contact me directly at info@combat-silat.net from now on and we can work out the details.

Hormat saya,
