I know it may sound strange but if you want to get fast practice your movements (djurus, Lankahs, kics etc) extremely slow with precision.

D it VERY slowly, but keeping all the muscles in your body as tight as you can pull them.

Power....hmmmmm, you need to justr improve your leg strength...the explosive power generated by pushing very heavy things up and down with your legs......up fast, down slow....

or LOTS of Sempok/Depok

Salam hormat,

Never use a chair to practise side kicks.

If you want to get strong side kicks practise your langkah using kuda-kuda as low as possible, as slow as possible, for as long as possible (you want big sweat drops as big as seeds of corn). Do a lot of jumps and rolls, forwards, backwards, sideways.

Selamat berlatih.

Salam damai,
(damai means peace)

I see you don't understand and you have to do it to uunderstand. Your body is a whole and it is part of nature. If you train your smile you will find you have more friends. If you roll you insides and put your balance under duress you will be better on one foot. If you are better on one foot your other foot can kick better. Rolls will give you experience of circles and circular movements which will make you....

Please dont make me talk too much. Just do the moves and the drills. These moves are alchemical and contain the answers in your sweat. Silat needs faith. In Indonesia people would probably be very wary of any silat school that took paper and legal insurance like schools must in the West. Silat mooves are guaranteed by nature. If you know you need not say it if you don't know you should not say it.

Hi, Basically what your doing is building up the muscles that will control the movements, as well as the confidence to carry them out effectively. This not only works with kicks, but with every aspect of training.

Give it a go for several months, and watch yourself improve, make sure give us an update tho' ;)

mqqier,

Here is what makes the sidekick powerful:

1. The strength of the body (only a small part of sidekick power)
2. Proper technique (a good portion of the power)
3. Your bodyweight distribution into the opponent (the largest portion of power)

Here are some training methods for sidekick power:

1. Squat and jump and roll techniques
2. Sidekick slowly with dynamic tension
3. Press into a wall, tree, etc with sidekick (a different type of dynamic tension)
4. Kicking heavy bags, banana trees, training partners. (must have some give so you learn proper bodyweight distribution into the kick)

Hope this helps you.

Sincerely,
Teacher: Eddie Ivester

Also try just holding the side kick position in the air for at least 5 to minutes at a time. Stay relaxed don't flex anymuscles just use the muscle needed to hold your leg up. This will teach the body to relax the muscles needed to develop energy and internal sinew strength. Also it will help you develop your stability in that particular movement. The old chinese yogis and indian yogis would hold posture for 10 min to 1 hour and sometimes more to develop massive energy and understanding of their structure and ailgnment.

Another trick is get a wobble board and use it to stand on while you do your kicks and while you perform your djurus on one leg.

This will build massive leg strength particularly in your stabilizing muscles around the knees, ankles, calves etc..

Try it!

I try to do all my djurus on one leg on the wobble board and then go back down and then switch sides

1 - 18/ 18 - 1 (left & Right)

My legs have gotten very strong and stable from this. and kicks have become way more powerful.

good luck!

Santi
