I've taken so many good info from this site&forum so i want to give something back!

I am student at medicine- stomatology- so here goes a few advice.

No particular order, just what comes into mind right know:

Don't drink too hot or too ice - it is bad for your teeth.

If you are too lazy to wash your teeth after each meal do it at least before you go to sleep- that is the most important time to do it!

Use dental floos- it works. When flossing, don't be scared by the sight of bleeding-it is normal.

Brush your teeth using up and down motions- not the go in go out tipe of motion- this is the most comon mistake people do.
Be gentle and use soft brushes!

Brush your tongue too- it caries germs.(if you didn't now male healthy sexual organs are cleaner that healthy mouth) . Do not use your tooth brush for your tongue because it was not design for this- use a spoon insted(or any othe special device that you find in a drugstore) be gentle!

If you have small children wash their mouth too and "brush"their gums&teeth and tongue with a soft wet cloth- be gentle!

Bleaching yout teeth with any products that have or don't any dental association aproval is higly NOT recomended- there is still no product that truly doesn't harm the tooth dentine!

Moth wash : do not use products that containd alchool and search the ones that contains chlorine dioxide. Gargle- it's a must!

Did i mention quit smoking- but hey this is a martial art forum so most of you doesn't smoke! are you?

MOST IMPORTANT

Go to see a dentist once or twice a year. It is better to prevent than to cure and a lot more painless!

This is just the abc but hope it helps if you got any questions feel free to ask!

I'm happy to say I've no fillings, having said that I've not been to the dentist for avout 10 years....... :(

I thought cutting sugar and dentist out of my life seemed a good idea, seems to be going ok so far! :D

You're a martial artist! Nothing should scare you :D

I had my first filling last year, I'd never had one before then and I go to the dentist every 6 months, so you might be lucky if you've taken care of your teeth. It wasn't pleasent, I'm immune to most painkillers and novocaine is one of them :(

CioGium, maybe you can answer me something thats been bugging me for years. If sugar is bad for your teeth, then what's in the toothpaste to make it sweet?

They use this stuff called Xylitol, a non-sugar sweetener, which reduces levels of cariogenic (decay causing) bacteria in the mouth.
(Natural toothpastes contain a variety of ingredients - anything from oil of ginger, peppermint, spearmint, cinnamon, wintergreen, and menthol to seaweed extract.)
