Ok, after inspiration from the boxing section (and a similar one on the thai forum)...

What does your typical training session feature? I'm not talking about what you do at home or in your spare time - just what you do in class.

Well, as I'm sure applies to everyone it varies greatly day to day, but here goes to get things started:

5-10 minutes of stretching
10-15 minutes of workout/jogging/skipping mixed
20 minutes of drill work or pad work with partner & bag work (rotated over all different pad types)
15-20 minutes sparring, 1, 2 or 3 minute rounds - sometimes longer if the instructor's not concentrating on the clock :bang:

This is for the standard 1 hour lesson, but some are 2 hours or 3 if it's a squad training session. We also throw in some shadow sparring and vary the amounts of each depending on any competitions coming up etc.

This is just the kickboxing lessons. We also have lessons more geared toward kung fu, which will then substitute in form work, blocking work and weapons etc.

At Muay Thai it generaly went like this:

*20 minute job (but this was BEFORE class time and was optional if you came or not)
*10-15 minutes of stretches and light jogging around the room to warm you yp
*Partner up with kick shields and thai pads etc and run through your kicking and punching drills for half an hour. It can get VERY paintfull sometimes
*We make a circuit of different training stations on a 5 minute rotation.
They are:
-Pushups/situps
-Sparring with one of the trainers
-Pushkicks
-Punching

It changes day to day but that's the main of it.
Depends, sometimes it's a 1 hour session, sometimes it's a 2 hour session.
Either way, we've produced the best Muay Thai fighters in Western Australia...proved by fight nights.

Hi Norm
This is what we do:
5-10 minutes skipping
5-10 minutes warming up = "play" sparring i.e. exchange leg kicks or practising timing drills, i.e. use Teep to counter low kick or Catch and return drills with roundhouse kicks.
or even Blocking drills with kicks.

Then the real fun starts :
6x2 mins on the bags (using different bag each time: Floor to ceiling ball, body bag, uppercut bag, maize ball, shin bag , normal bags)
I chose 2 mins for bagwork and not 3 mins as in 3 mins people pace themselves more and dont go as flat out = gives lazy habits

6x3 mins Sparring (3 mins rounds are better for sparring as you get to be more tactical within the sparring round, 3x2 for sparring is good for HARD/Heavy sparring)

Padwork in 2 sections:
3x2 mins = focus mitts for boxing combos (set combo each round)
Then change over
3x2mins = thaipads for power punch/kick combos

To finish off:
Exercises OR "freetime= do what you want on the bags OR Stretch off and finish OR Trainer 1 on 1 time on focus pads.

Hope this helps
If you want some combs what we will do in a session then i will include them

We have a bunch of cardio and stretching at the beginning. Not sure of timing, but starts with 3 min rounds of skipping followed by 10 of press ups, crunches, squats (in different variants eg: left to fight crunches). This is repeated for, say, 5 rounds.

We then do some other exercise (maybe ab work one dag and leg work another).

This is followed by stretching (obvious ones - box splits, butterfly etc)

The gym timer rund throughout while we are there. It's a 3 minute timer, with 1 minute rest. We can do anything we want after the above mentioned. We could spar using the 3 minute rounds, we could do bagwork, padwork, more fitness or just doss around doing very little.

Obviously, I've ommitted things like shadow boxing which are done in the workout part. Also, we don't have to do just sparring or just bagwork. We could maybe do 2 rounds of bagwork and 3 of sparring (EXAMPLE). Or we could spend, say 30 mins going through combos on pads.

Idiot (what else can I call you? :P):

The problem with 2 minute rounds of whatever, is that we fight with 3 minute rounds. You're not aiming to go flat out and be knackered after 2 minutes. IMO anyway
