Personally, it bothers the heck out of me. The one government that did recognize Tibet as a seperate country, now says it that Tibet is part of China. Is this politically motivated? Or religious?

Nothing that vajpayee did atrociously, horribly wrong could surprise me in the slightest. The man is a fascist and a ****er.

Tkd, what is the consensus in India? After all, that is where the Tibetan government in exile is. Is this part of Vajpayee and the Shin Seva to make "India for Hindus"? With all the blatant and subtle attacks (physical, emotional and psycological) on muslims and christians, has he added buddhists to the list? China can now claim that the Dalai Lama has no claim to the leadership and no power to govern. They can install the Panchen Lama they picked a few years back as the legitimate ruler of Tibet and say he is a loyal Chinese citizen.
Fah! I wish the US would get off it's sorry ass and recognize the Dalai Lama and that the annexation of Tibet was highly illegal and just plain wrong.

I really, really, REALLY do not hope the US starts messing with China in any way, especially not in the send-the-marines way that seems to have become standard practice. I don't think the US gives a damn about a mountainous province suppressed by one of the worlds great powers when they have islamic nations to attack instead.
Isn't there a civil war going on more or less non-stop in Tibet?

Yes, there has been a fight going on in Tibet since China invaded. I wouldn't call it a civil war, that implies to opposing factions of the same country. This is a fight against the invader (China) and the natives (Tibetans). But, you're right, I hope we don't send the Marines in. Probably wouldn't, I don't think the US Gov't sees Tibet as of any strategic importance. Human rights violations, sure China commits alot of those in Tibet in the name of "re-education" but the US isn't very interested in putting a stop to that. After all, China is a big important trade partner. Bleh. Personally, I'd like to see a boycott of products "Made in China", but the sad fact is, we get too many things from them. Did you know, they're the #1 manufactuer of American flags?
