I feel there are a lot of good discussions that end prematurely because of the new post driving it longer down the list and out of the page. I would like there to be a "random topic" displayed somewhere on the forum. Might get people back to discuss the topic. You could sort of circulate the topics so that they all get their turn on the front page, starting with the early ones and ending with the newer ones. General discussion topics only I think.
What do you think?

I disagree. Because people can get off their lazy arse and go back a few pages and look!
I like the idea, It might point out some of the newer members towards older posts they haven't seen and get some more good debate going.

Many people don't have time or will to browse through the whole MAP every time they check in. If the topic was visible to them, we might get some interesting input from them that we wouldn't get normally.
Edit: Yeah, that too, Kyokushin_girl.

What do the people in power think of this idea? Could it be done? Maybe the topics would have to be chosen manually which would mean extra trouble for the mods.

it sounds alrite, but then if pl really wantd to view the whole topic they would do it themselves, so i dont hink u will c a major increase in the range of oppinions

... actually what I do think might be another good idea would be to change "View New Posts" link on the forum page and change it to "View Unanswered Posts" with a drop down selection of different time frames i.e. minutes, hours, days, months etc.etc.
... is this do-able??

I like the forum just the way it is now.
It's not broken so let's not fix it :D

I like it too!
Merely a suggestion :D  ... although I have noticed increased activity here, it may get those unanswered threads brought to the forefront as KY girl also noted.

It may also drag up those long lost dead horses we've got fed up with flogging :D

Maybe fix the Kata discussion to the front! Noooooo :D
I just think more on the front page, and I still get sent to the first post instead of first unread post! :(

Yes there are alot of "dead horses" here, but then again I review the forum for the most recent. Check out my own repllies on my history, and then hit the areas I am interested in. Sometimes I even use the 'search' on the home page. Perhaps a most popular or most asked area for those just coming on. Other than that, I really enjoy it as it is now.:)

I think it might also draw newcomers attention to unanswered questions that they may know a lot about and can give answers to. Maybe the topic shouldn't be entirely random, but chosen by the mods and swapped for a new one every few days, but that would mean more work for the mods. As for the front page, it needen't be more than a small box between the poll and recent topics box, not a big deal.
