View Full Version : Flexibility bad for kicking power?

This is not intended to question the neccesity of stretching, but I've experienced a a loss in roundhouse kicking power after getting very flexible, especially at head and thigh height. Have any of you experienced this problem or am I imagining things?

If I might offer another viewing angle Adam?

If you didn't have the flexibility to kick high before, how do you know how much power you had in that range?

Flexibility training is to reduce the resistance of Antagonistic muscle groups which oppose particular movements.

Strength training is a different thing entirely surely?

Oh, but I was able to kick at head height before, but then I trained to be able to do splits by jumping up and landing in the split. After that I seemed to loose some power in my kicks, both head and thigh. Can flexibility be overdone?

Everything can be overdone Adam.

Why do you want to jump in the air and land in the splits?

Don't you want to have children? :D

lol...

Flexibility will help kicking power.

Actually you have power but since you are flexible you will not have the same tension in your legs so you *think* you lost power but it's not.

I used to think the same thing b'fore about low licks, check out thead -

Hmmm...is it true?
