Since I have started lifting my veins have become not only much more visible through my skin but some of them now are kinda above the skin level.
I personally think its cool but I am wondering the exact cause of said phenomena. Is it because of bodyfat loss or is it due to my muscles needing more blood flow because of their increased mass?

Same thing happened to me shortly after I started to do Kali and Ninjitsu excercises. My forearms were getting much stronger at a very fast pace and I started to get muscles popping out along with a bunch of veins.

Personally I think it's cool and according to some girls I know it is :) Other than that there is nothing I can offer you, I think it's a normal thing when you start getting stronger.

I would say it is because of bodyfat loss. Personally though I do not like the way my viens show. They can become incredibly gross looking after a while. This is why I dislike bodybuilders so much...

I agree with Jazman about the low body fat.

My sister thinks it's gross.

Lower bodyfat & increased blood supply demand - both are factors.

Veins are awful. As if my hands weren't scarred and ugly enough as it was, now I have to look at the plumbing under the skin too.

spiffy, personally I like them. Time to go hit the iron again.

veins ROCK, man! the way they swell up and stand out. So gross and cool!

I have to vote in favor of increased vascularity, too. Bodybuilders who are trying to go for it will, of course, try to reduce their bodyfat--they'll also often hold the "squeeze" at the apex of the exercise for a couple seconds.

I don't think its a nice look at all, looks like you've been shooting up or something. Muscles are nice if they're not too big, but when guys get huge muscles and sticky out veins.. yuk!!

I'd like to hear what the women on the forum have to say about huge veins sticking out. Likee or no likee?

kyokushin: I am not that big... my veins aren't popping like ahhnold or anything, just more than before.

hmmm... ok question for you guys.

Do you like them on women?
Since I've been hitting the bag and wearing weighted gloves.... yes, Ive been building my biceps and shoulders but I have noticed an increase of veins on my arms.... top of forearms and of course on top of hands (but that is age I'm sure!)

There are "abnormal veins" whic do appear on legs.... (which I do have 2 spots and they are "spider veins".

These "spider" veins usually occur in association with larger dilated blood vessels (often blue / green in color) called reticular veins. Varicose veins are larger veins that bulge above the skin surface. Varicose veins are often found with larger and deeper vein problems.
Often dilated blood vessels cause aching especially when standing for a long time. Although dilated blood vessels do carry blood they are not very efficient and are often not necessary to the circulatory system. The body will find an alternative route for the blood to travel back more efficiently to the heart so these can be treated without damaging the circulation (treatment actually improves venous circulation). Treatment (usually laser) will also usually relieve any symptoms/pain caused by the veins.

Veins on legs are gross on women I think.... bt I can live wit tem on y arms as long as my biceps look good!

Yeah, veins on legs are generally pretty gross IMO.

Looks cool on guys I reckon, but I'm not attracted to them

kickchick: that is a really good question but sadly one I don't think I can answer. I have seen very few women that are toned enough to have such veins and thus I have no real basis to make a judgement. My general preference is towards women who are fit but not pumped, not sure where the level of fitness required to get these veins fits in...
so basically, hand veins are fine, arm ones I am not sure.

Yeah, fit chicks are a big turn on! The majority of chicks aren't, but when I go into the Uni gym and see all these fit looking chicks walking out, I'm going Ooh, daaayyummmnnnn!

I don't think I'd really care if they had veins sticking out of their legs :D

I don't really give a **** wether a woman has veins on the surface of her skin or not. It's not exactly the first thing I notice...

hehe i think it depends on the person themselves how these veins affect their appearance..by that i mean the structure of the msucles themselves...

i'm sitting with one of my body building mags open in front of me.....

and some of the womens arms look ok with the veins showing on their arms and others don't...seems to depend on the whether the veins are straight or have many branches comign off them etc..

i have yet to see a female with visible veins on the upper legs, dunno why because women seem to be able to get their legs more defined than the men and i would normally expect that to produce more visible veins..

they all look ok with veins on the calves....

as for men..personally i think visible veins are good on men.

/me hopes to have some some day:PP (/me drops the fat from his diet:P)

some women like em, some don't just a matter of taste:P

I like big muscles and vascularity on women, myself. Just personal preference. Funny thing I've noticed is that a lot of bodybuilders don't O.o

I have one running down my bicep and a few down my forearms, not much visible unless I flex 'em, don't give a damn wether women like 'em or not, the thing is I like 'em :D

Women with big muscles? nope, women with fit muscles? Yep :D Women with viens on their arms and calves? Won't bother me ;)

no bother with viens on calves and arms, once they start to branch out though it goes into the eww! range. Agreeing with Cain that women with fit muscles are in!
