Does running in place provide all the same benefits as normal running? I live in an area where running outside is possible but unpleasent and we sold our treadmill back a few years ago when it started to break.
Can I get all the cardio I need by running in place?

Well....dunno about runnin' in place but skippin' would be a better alternative, make you light on your feet...

I am going to try the whole getting up a half hour early to run outside thing I guess. Running indoors would work well with my job schedule but thinking about it now it is kind of a silly concept(running around a 5x5 room would be dizzying).

Well, actually you only burn an extra 100 calories per hr. approx. by jump roping/skipping in place ....rather than running in place.

Check outFit Watch (http://www.fi****ch.com/phpscripts/searchexcategories.php?comp_cd=12)
where it will give you some other ideas for cardio. How about a mini trampoline, or even running up stairs???

Or kata?

When I practice kata to a point of cardio benefit I tend to continue at that speed at my next lesson. My instructor doesn't want me going that fast quite yet...

I like running up stairs but I have a tendency to fall down them. I may make one of those step arobic things they use in step classes.

Once again, a great link kickchick
