Im looking to buy a new guitar since my acoustic guitar broke.. but this time Im going to purchase a electric guitar.
I should have £2o0-300 by july, but Im stuck on what to buy.
Could anyone recommend a few?, or should i save up some more?
I thought that maybe my only real choices for that price would be epiphone.

There is a ton of choice in that price range.
If I were buying at that price I'd look at Ibanez.

Try as many guitars as you can. A good guitar will feel like it's playing itself :)

I really don't like Epiphone Les Pauls, no matter how many times they say the alder body can match the sound of a pure mahogany Gibson, I just don't believe it, and the ones I've played didn't really change that opinion.

I'd go with an Ibanez, hell, I'm getting a higher-mid range RG around Christmas time (so long away  )

Yeah, in that price range the most common would be epiphone, but im not a huge fan. I would suggest either a ibanez, or a Paul Reed Smith. Id go for the PRS myself

I don't really know all that much about guitars, but buying an instrument is just like making any other serious investment. Make sure you do your research-- shop around a lot, talk with salespeople, and read up on the internet. Most importantly, try lots of different guitars from lots of different shops! You want to feel like you're getting a good buy, and the more informed comparisons you can make the better.

Yup.. but there are not many stores near where i live that sell guitars, so I guess I have to rely on others peoples opinions in reviews etc

Yup.. but there are not many stores near where i live that sell guitars, so I guess I have to rely on others peoples opinions in reviews etcThing is, you REALLY have to try before you buy. High end PRS guitars are universally agreed to be things of beauty, and they are, but their necks don't seem to like my hands - they really are that individual. Plus, if you order online and it comes with a crappy set up, you're looking at another wad of cash to get a decent job done.
Times when I've been in the market for a new guitar, I've just gotten on a train to London or checked out shops when visiting my girlfriend in Bristol and tried everything I like the look of. If you find one you like, you can then order off the net and have a vague idea what you'll be getting - that's how I got my lovely Gibson Gothic Explorer

Muahahahaha :D
It's an original limited run model too, none of this production line malarky for me  (cost me £42 a month for 2 years plus a £100 deposit but it was worth it :D)
Here's a pic of my babies (the other one's an Ibanez RG570 with DiMarzio Evolution pickups. It was my eighteenth birthday present and it's still going strong seven years later)

Nice. I've still got the guitar I was given for my 18th too. I think some wiring has come loose somewhere though it hums quite a bit if I don't keep a hand on the strings. It's not as good as yours though  it's an Aria Pro 2. Trouble is that if I get another one, I'll have to buy it in secret so I don't get into trouble with my better half... kinda like I did with my sword (ahem)!

Nothing wrong with an Aria - my first guitar was an Aria Strat knockoff. I had to retire that a few years back though. I had it on stage as my backup and some drunk git from the band on before us knocked it over and broke the trem out of the body. I cried, but not quite as much as he did ;)

Could be that too (actually, that's more likely than a damaged pickup)
What amp settings are you using when it makes the noise? Heavy distortion will pick up ambient string movement if they're not damped and cause a hum. If it's happening on clean as well, get someone to take a look at it. Either way, it shouldn't be too much money

I'm in love with this guitar, best tone I have ever heard. Hand made 1952.

Not sure how this will relate but Dean guitars are great. Well built, great sound and a wide cost range. My kick-about was $275.00.

What type of music are you going to be playing with it? As for Ibanez... Ive never played one that I liked as much as say... a Jackson or ESP, as far as Metal goes. Guitars are like anything else, different guitars are suited for different styles of music. I bought my first guitar (a Jackson) for $200US, and I still play it as my primary guitar (though, its been through a few mods, and a few new parts). I picked up an ESP Ltd MF-207 a couple years ago and I love that as well. Ive played tons of Ibanez, Fender, Epiphone (and Gibson) and none can match the Metal tone I get with these two guitars.
EDIT: If your guitar hums when you let your fingers off the strings, its the ground. Personally, Id switch to active pickups and avoid all that mess, but you can fix it easy enough by checking all the grounds and re-soldering any loose or old joints.

Thanks guys. I'll take it to the local shop, I think they have a guitar tech there. I need to get the trem sorted too, the thread on the arm got shredded and it doesn't screw in any more.
Talking of giggin' accidents though, I remember our singer used to play his violin for one of the songs in the set. One night we finished the song and he propped it against the drum platform behind me. At one point I stepped backwards and...

My mates dad has a wide collection of guitars, so I am going around there to try out a few and to see which one suits me the best.
