We've all been there, me more so than some others, sitting up late at the computer, a huge overdose of caffeine worming its way through our veins. Stand up and be counted, O sleepless thousands!

I feel with you, I truly do. Ever since the hollidays kicked in, I've gone to bed around 2 in the morning and gotten up at 10.

I think I need a wife to get my lazy arse into shape. :)

heh heh. I crawled out of bed at 1:30 today. I am currently wearing a very 'king of the undead' dressing gown, just to spice things up... (mad grin)

From 1983 to 1998, I survived on an average of 4 hours of sleep a night. Every night. Except for every 2 or 3 months, when I would go 3 to 4 days without sleeping at all. My longest is 5 days no sleep.
I do not recommend living like this.

wow. An adept. Unless I'm very much mistaken, KY girl also needs to come out of the closet on this... :)

ahem... I like it in my closet, thanks all the same :)

I don't drink Caffine much anymore, but this is the only time I can get peace and quiet :D

yup, that's true. I also like the whole artificial light thing, after spending 2 weeks in the woods...

The insomniac trick is a lot of fun when you've got an exam the next day. Gives you a serious test of willpower the next morning. :D

Note: The kyokushin hangover cure also helps post-insomnianic tardiness.

I have done that, and the spoilsports put my exam in the afternoon...

heh heh, couldn't have done it without you.... I'd like to thank my mother, my father for not letting me drop out of secondary school and forcing me to get kicked out, my instructors for being groovy, etc. etc. etc.

Which one would that be, the 'leap in the ice cold shower' one? :)

Sigh, here we go again...

Undress, get in shower, turn gauge to coldest possible, scream, stay in shower for five minutes, get out, dry dress, and possibly die from pneumonia.

If you don't die, you should be fine. :D

And if you don't die, you'll be extra toughened up for next time :)

It wasn't the caffeine that kept me awake, I never figured what it was. Maybe it was because I could not get my mind to slow down. My body would be tired, but my mind would be racing along and therefore, I couldn't sleep. Just a few years ago, I started to sleep -8 hours a night, but a few months ago, I started rolling back. Now it's 6 hours and then I'm awake. Kind of a reverse insomnia.
Sux.

I can't get to sleep at all before 2.30am. Sometime 3.00am. It sometimes pisses me off, because it gets kinda boring. But most of the times it's pretty good. Nice and quite, then I can actually here my brain talking to itself, you find out some pretty good stuff.

It's not becasue of the caffine though... I stop drinking that at around 12ish (during the day, mid-day).

Staying up late, totally sleepless, without caffine is great. You should try it. Then it's REALLY quite and peaceful.

Does someone have a fool-proof way of beating insomnia?

Must be worse sleeping during the! :D

My technique is to stay up late, after 12, once your properly tired its easier to get to sleep. If I can't sleep, then get up for an hour or two, watch & eat!

Worst thing is just lying thre, but you do seem to get some rest........

I know of few ways that may work...

But fool-proof? The only thing can say are Drugs... Just make sure they are legal. :D

Being knocked unconscious is pretty fool-proof :D

failing that, run/cycle your butt off about a hour or two before you go to bed, and try and get 8 hours sleep. 8 hours is enough to make you tired after a day's activity

EAT??? ... I do believe that is the "worst" thing you can do!

You basically need 7 - 9 hours of sleep (8 being the ideal) each night in order for your body to run efficiently. Deprive your body of sleep and you'll have lousy fat loss AND muscle loss which lowers your metabolism. The reason for this is because without enough sleep the body stops producing anabolic hormones (muscle producing/fat burning hormones...testosterone and growth hormones) and start to increase the production of catabolic hormones (muscle destroying/fat depositing hormones ....cortisol).

Also, you will lack the energy and focus to get through your workouts and it will also lead to overtraining as you won't be able to recover anymore. To top it off, there is research that indicates that a lack of sleep creates cravings and binges ... so there you go pgm316.
