I've managed to pull part of my trapezius muscle. It's not constant, only when I try to use it. I can do presssups and pullups OK, it seems but when I try to do anything complex e.g. shadow boxing with kata abstractions it hurts. Any ideas on how I could have done this, and what I should do? My first reaction is to take a rest for a couple of days.

I would constantly pull this muscle in class when I didn't stretch out properly . I've actually pulled it once backing out of the driveway when turning to look out back window!!
Try these!neck exercises (http://www.backrelief.com/prevention/neck_exercises.html)

Why?
A little while ago I pulled something in my neck. A few days later of rest and it was almost not even there.. just a 'niggle'.
I started training again and ended up doing more damage to it then what I did in the first place. I could not move my head or even stand-up for 6 days. I was stuck in bed. When I could finally move I had to have physio for 4 weeks.
If I took a few extra days rest after I first damaged it then it would not have even been that 5 week problem.
Your body Is telling you something. Listen to it. You could end up with more of a problem then what you started with.
