Hey all,

im about to start training my training in weapons (the staff and chucks) and i was wondering if you all had any recommendations as to what kind of staff i should buy. Is it just a personal preference? or is there one that is better for beginers? (rattan, tapered or untapered, wax wood etc.)

any help would be...........helpful

I would say a non tapered oak the reason I suggest this is a tapered staff is faster than a non tapered, and oak is the heaviest wood which also makes it slower than rattan or wax wood. wax wood being the fastest and trust me your going to hit yourself enough with the oak one, you don't need a tapered wax wood one you'll knock yourself out.
just my 2 cents

It depends on how you are using it really. My personal preferance is a 1 1/16" octagonal bo made of purple heart. It is a very heavy closed grain wood that is quite flexible. I like the fact that I cannot break it and it will flex enough to get a great deal of "whipping" action from it which increases the power you can generate. A tapered bo reduces the amount of mass at the end which will reduce the power. I think a narrow straight bo is a good compromise. Again this is my preference and is driven by the way I use it. As far as the "chucks" go I would say "chuck them". Pick up "A" weapon and get it down well. I think everyone who wants to do weapons should start with the stick. Long stick, short stick, and something in between, these are the most usefull and readily available weapons at your disposal.
