Every time i've ever heard about ITF, it meant the international tang soo do federation headed by grandmaster CS Kim. Is it the same one here? I'm a newbie to these forums and i dont know if theres a different ITF out there.

:D .... what??? is this a test from Yoda???? ;)
let's see........
The head .... the head --- In WTF you cannot strike to the HEAD!!!
there are a lot of similarities between the two... but this is the major diff.
ITF Rules (http://www.itf-information.com/information10.htm)
W.T.F. rules (new competition rules went into effect as of July, 1st - 2002)
WTF Rules (http://www.wtf.org/r&r/wtf_rule.htm)

Oor school is a WTF school and we can kick the head but just cant punch the head. So in the ITF can you punch the head?

:D yes indeed .... but not the back of head (front & side is legal target)
In an in classroom spar... more often than not we curtail strikes to the head unless both partners agree to them. Usually black belts and other advanced belts will throw some hooks and backfists with a certain level of restraint to the head.

I also think that other than the facial strikes, the kata's/forms are quite different, aren't they? Hyungs vs poomse?

True.... (among other differences as well).....
but as Yoda brought up "and what is the main rule difference in competition between ITF and WTF?" and so we concluded "the head"!!!

Funny becuase a kick to the back of the head from the front scores (think of hook kicks and stuff).

are you actually allowed to punch the head in ITF?
my understanding was that you were allowed to perform a "death blow" i.e. punch and stop the strike 1 inch from the head.
could be wrong tho, -WTF myself.
best check kickchicks links to official websites......
hmmmmmmmmmm, suppose this reply was pretty stupid then. lol. d'oh! :D

I take itf and we can also punch to the back of the head. We do not wear head gear or body gear. Wtf wears that tough body armor since their kicks are full force? Itf does not have the super spin kicks like wtf. The most we spin is 360. We also jump less and have less double action kicks. Itf also has different patterns and is about 40% punches and 60% kicks. I wanna know what the difference is in gtf and ustf. I talked to a ustf guy and said they had similar patterns.
"my understanding was that you were allowed to perform a "death blow" i.e. punch and stop the strike 1 inch from the head.
"
For lower ranks they do throw punches that are not supose to land to get the person used to punches to the head. PPl break noses and get koed so we do make contact to the head with punches /chuckle.
