Just wondering if anyone else has seen this film, its got some of the best gun-fu I've ever come across, and is a great film to boot.

Saw this at the flicks earlier this year. Gun kata, I'm sure theres a thread on that somewhere! (Seriously)
I liked the baseball bat kata thingy, the 2 second swordfight at the end definately is one of my favorite fight scenes of the year.

Read 1984, the two seam to be very much along the same line cept 1984 didnt have gun kata.

Practically identical in fact, although missing the war, and the various Ministries. But hey, the gun kata are enough of a difference that I'll watch it happily several times.

Actually, Logan's run set in 1984 with Matrix visuals. Now that nails it down ;)

Just watched this film, was very good and the gun kata martial art is a great idea, does any body know where the "Gun Kata" thread is?

Superb film, unfortunately after I watched this, no other shoot out in any other action move looked impressive.
Christian Bale just kicks so much ass as Preston. and the last two fight scenes are both Uber cool

I really liked the fight scenes in this film too, regardless of how silly some of them where! One thing I did have a bit of a problem with though was the amount of emotions the characters who were supposed to be unemotional kept showing- a hell of a lot of anger from that other black cleric guy for one!

I'm glad someone mentioned Farenheit 451. I see it as one part 451, one part 1984, and one part Matrix.
I enjoy dystopian films and books, so I enjoyed this film. Fun action flick. Gun-Kata was a very clever idea, and I thought it transferred well on film.
BTW, Bale is pegged for the new Batman. In case anyone is interested.

Brave man, after Arnie and the rest destroyed the Batman gravy train.

Stars Christian Bale and Emily Watson and just plain has the best contemporary or futuristic martial arts scenes I've ever seen in a movie, combining the old with the new: a magnificent combat martial art known as "gun kata" which only once vaguely resembles the tongue-in-cheek exaggerations of The Matrix, without pushing the boundaries of believability quite *that* far.
You need a little patience once it's loaded in the dvd player, give the film a good half hour to get the introductory sequences out of the way and set the theme, but watch out for the scene where the local authority tries to arrest the senior Grammaton Cleric outside his car. Do not mess with one of these guys.
Unbelievably, although increasingly involved with a plot that has overtones of Huxley and Asimov the action scenes just keep getting better. The final sequence especially is both magnificently performed and phenominally choreographed. I want to learn martial arts from whoever put this together.
"Gun Kata" itself combines Wing Chun style handwork with no-nonesense Kenjutsu and ancient "bone smashing" koppojutsu techniques and even throws in some escrima style battering work (look out for the scene where we begin to fully realize the breadth of the Cleric's art as he finds himself suddenly surround by no less than 7 attackers in close quaters and yet has every advantage).
Be aware fans of Mc Dojo and 50 years of oriental marketing efforts. There are no kicks performed in this movie whatsoever.

Class film, Bale is good and I like the way the whole things put together, and the heavy Brit influence!!!
And place your bets now on how long it takes a mod to move this to movies forum!!! :D

I finally saw it. Rented it only for the "gun kata" that everyone talks about.
I don't know what movie you guys were watching. This movie sucks, sucks, and then sucks some more. That just about describes everything except, oh, his cool jacket and a combined 5 minutes of sword fights and unarmed-vs-gun.
" " on this movie.

Not big fan of this movie either. Predates way too much from The Matrix, Blade, THX 1138, Logan's Run, Resident Evil, etc. plus a wide range of sci-fi stories, namely Nineteen Eighty-Four, Brave New World, 1984 and Fahrenheit 451.
IMO this movie is kind of a milkshake: you feel full right after you drink it but 1/2 hour later you feel empty.
Rating: 1.5/5

For those of you that liked this movie - the new Ultraviolet movie is made by the same fellas - and has the same feel in some areas as the gun kata. As well as, don't know if you noticed in both movies, the shapes of the gunfire that comes out of the weapons...

Equilibrium was great. I found it to be creative, well-made, visually pleasing, and overall a great movie. Too bad the guys that made it followed it up with Ultraviolet... what a let down.

Without watching 1984 and al lthe other similar films like Equilibrium, it does stand alone as a good film. People always compare films as "Ir is like X film with X actor doing Y and Z MA". Please, stop comparing and watch movies. When you sit there thinking "This is like 1984 but without the war (the film plotline is from a post war era, as there is a reference to it)", you end up analysing it and not watching it for it's merit as entertainment instead of it being a reference to other films.
