Hi there,

I'm a newcomer to these message boards. I'm looking to start a martial art that matches my personality.

I'm 23 years old, with a thin to medium build. I'm 5'9", I alternate between weights and cardio 5 days a week and weigh around 145 lbs.

I'm the type who would rather avoid a fight and shies away from physical conflict.

I'm not sure how fast I am or if I'd be more suited to self defense, grappling or punches and kicks. I'm looking for a few ideas and schools that might be worth trying since, as I've said, I know nothing about Martial Arts besides being exposed to lots of Jet Li, Jackie Chan, and Bruce Lee movies. I have a few friends who've taken Hapkido, Kenpo, and Ninjitsu (although I've heard it's hard to find a ninjitsu trainer and I don't speak to that person anymore).

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Hey, I'm a beginner and looking to find an instructor in NJ too. I'm in Bergen County.

I've narrowed it down to muay thai or escima based on info I got on these boards and others.

Don't know where in NJ you are, but if not that far, let me know if you find a good place, and I'll do the same - ok?

Talk to you soon,
Jason

If you want to train in Ninjutsu, you have one of the best instructors in NJ. Jack Hoban. Go to http://www.winjutsu.com to find his dojo or one of his students closest to where you live.
