Anyone listen to Christian Hard Rock?
Lol, at first I thought it was a joke until I went to Creationfest East 2004.
You really can't tell a difference between them and secular bands, unless you really analyze the lyrics.
Personally, my favorite is by FAR Demon Hunter...as they sound VERY similar to Slipknot...very heavy and growling...just hard metal.
Some of the bands worth checking out if you like hard rock/metal ::
Demon Hunter
Zao
Norma Jean
Disciple
Skillet (Yea they're actually pretty good now)
A bit softer hard rock:
Pillar
Thousand Foot Krutch
Anyone's opinions on them?
www.purevolume.com should have 'em all.
LISTEN TO DEMON HUNTER! :D

I listened to Demon Hunter, they sounded like Slipknot only worse (never thought I'd say that) and merely confirmed that the best metal bands are with Satan ;)
I don't really care what religion a band has, but I can honestly say I've never found a Christian band I like

Have you tried P.O.D. (Payable On Death)? they're amazing and not the typical Christian band.

Creed had to have been the biggest christian rock band of recent years.

The only problem I have with POD is...well
When you listen to the lyrics
"Tell the world how I feel inside,
Even though it might cost me everything"
"I feel so alive,
For the very first time,
I can't deny You,
I feel so alive"
I mean, these among others do make them sound like Christian lyrics...but then you go watch the music videos......and that one in particular makes them seem more secular than not...with the couple and everything.
Lots of Christian lyrics seem to be misinterpreted as the person is singing about another person they love as opposed to God...which I think happened with POD and they just kinda went with it and found it works.
Uhm, I don't remember who said that Demon Hunter is worse than slipknot...lol that's okay (you're going to die) lol, try Project 86. Maybe you'll like them more?

Not a huge fan of the 'genre' as a whole, but King's X and Galactic Cowboys often get placed in that pidgeonhole, and they're great bands. Well, King's X kinda got taken out of the whole 'christian rock' thing when Doug Pinnick (bass/vocals) came out as being gay, but that's a whole other story. :D

Of course I'm going to hate Demon Hunter, by your own admission they sound like Slipknot. ;) The nearest thing to a christian metal band I've liked was Embodyment and only because the vocals sounded like Carcass, but lyrically I thought they sucked

I agree to some extent, but who says every song you write has to worship God?

First, In the POD video, I think they went with the relationship just have a kind of duality thign going on.
Second, most christian music is terrible. As soon as you decide, oh I'm going to make music thats christian your music is going to be horrible. However, if you simply let your on christian beliefs become part of your songs, without an actual intent for the song to be christian, you may end up with something bearable or even good. System of a Down does this.
Some of their songs are spiritual, like Aerials, and others contain tidbits of their faith, like Chop Suey(Father, why have you forsaken me... or "I cry, when angels deserve to die"). These guys are christians, and they rock like crazy. Still, they don't make their music for christ or go out to make their music extra jesusy.
I am suprised no one brought up Cree.....er I mean Altar-Bridge.
Also Evanessence is highly embraced by the christian music scene. or so I've heard.

im pretty sure the bassist was brought up in a strict christian school in armenia but bar that they are a pretty mixed bag religion wise- citing many different people as spiritual influences citing ghandi, madonna and charlie manson

Personally, I don't like the guy's voice.
After hearing Aerials seventy trillion times on the radio, I kind of got sick of them :O(.

System of a Down is in NO way Christian, Chop suey makes fun of Christ, not glorify. Trust me I listen to a lot of their stuff.

Oh dear, if that's what you really think Christian rock music is like then you really need to look some up and get a better idea. lol
Christian music has got so much better over the last 5 years or so, there are dozens of Christian rock bands - quite a few of which have also made it in the secular charts. A notable lack of British ones though, they're mostly American. Personally my favourites are Creed, Skillet, Day of Fire and Annberlin. I also have some Audioadrennaline, Lifehouse, DCTalk and Delirious (most of their songs aren't rock but I like them anyway).

Although I'm not a fan of christian Hard Rock/Metal (I much prefer Black Metal) ... I do feel the need to contribute one band/album to this conversation that I recently stumbled upon that hasn't been mentioned, and one that is really quite brilliant:
JACOB'S DREAM - "Drama For The Ages"
Again, I may not be a christian, but I am Scholar of Metal - and this is a stellar album that deserves to be heard.

Should check out Vengeance Rising. An old band, and currently dissolved, but its still pretty slick. Check out their first two albums "Once Dead" and "Human Sacrifice". Their next album "Destruction Comes" was alot faster metal, and "Released Upon The Earth" was just brutal...
