Dear All,

The Exiles are presenting a one-day hand-and-a-half sword workshop on Sunday 3 April 2005 at Barking, London.

This will be concentrating on the “spada a due mani” from the system of Fiore dei Liberi and will be an in-depth presentation on the two handed “wide and loose plays” of the hand-and-a-half sword taken directly from one of the most complete and integrated historical martial systems surviving from medieval/renaissance Europe.

The workshop is open to all – including those with no prior experience.

For this workshop, all topics covered are from the “gioco largo” (wide and loose play) section of “spada a due mani” and will include:

-The relationship between spada a due mani and the rest of Fiore’s system.

-Principles of early Italian sword play with direct relation to the Segno and its later development

-Developments of the Posta (fighting positions) within Gioco Largo

-Basic footwork and body alignment

-Cutting and thrusting techniques from crossed swords

-Explicit techniques described by Fiore and implicit techniques derived from their application

-Introduction on developing Giocco Stretto (near plays)

-“Bridging the Gap” - distance & entry techniques

The content will be applicable to those with an historical interest in martial weapons and the various applications to which this system is suitable. The Exiles are recognised as one of the leading practitioners of this detailed system.

The day will be broken into 4 sessions, with intervals, between 10am and 5:30pm (approx) and will cost £25 per person. Those who attended the previous workshop will be offered a £5 discount.

Places have been limited, so pre-booking is required. Participants will be entitled to a discount to future workshops, which will continue to concentrate on specific aspects of Fiore's system.
