Hey,

I was just wondering, what the most popular weapon is among you people.

For me I suggest the sei chien (straigt-two-edged-sword, one in each hand)
But I think one´s quiker with one usual- and one short sword

Am learning my first weapon just now, the single Broadsword! It is a great challange to me as I have never done weapon work. I am looking forward to learning the staff though some day!

Hey, I did it right the other way:
First learned the staff (excellent weapon)
and then the sword.
By the way, I´ve seen you on this KFmagazine board

Yeah traditionally I`m supposed to learn the staff first but I fancied the broadsword and asked if I could learn it and my sifu said yes!

Yes I have registered on the KFmagazine board but am having problems and not been able to post yet so may take the name of keef321.

I read inside Kungfu & Kungfu Qigong mags, Kungfu Qiqong normally has the best articles but can concentrate on one subject too much in one issue sometimes.

I like my sticks! The two short Eskrima styles ones.

There also the weapon that is likely to be of most use to you, relating to lots of objects that can be picked up and used.

Hi PGM,

Yes the escrima sticks are cerainly one of the more usefull ones to learn today, suppose only situation ya gonna find a staff is near a pool table in a pub or a building site.

Interestingly though alot of our Broadswoard techniques can easily be used substituted with a baseball bat or stick. We have the seven star stick`s within our system but I think the techniques differ greatly to the broadsword ive been told.

Hi Keef,

A problem I have with the sword is there more difficult to train with, with a stick its easier to spar with than a slashing/stabbing bladed weapon.

I do like all the stick weapons, from the short stick, 3/4 to staff. Once you learn the techniques it doesn't matter what peice of wood you get your hands on!

Hanbo. Got to be the hanbo. So many things to be substituted. oooh, so many toys to learn, so little time.

The Tai Chie sword (or Chien) is supposed to be the mother of weapons. Although the style to fight with them implies that a lot :)

The Sern Chien form is very similar withe the escrima teechniques
I want to learn that too

Nunchakas and knifes for me.

I like the nunchaks as theyre the mutts nuts for sheer power with little need for leverage. And knifes because theyre an excellent survival tool as well as a weapon.

I would also like to get into Bow and arrow (another survival tool)

Im learnin my 1st weapon now aswell. STAFF.

I hated it with a passion when i first stared to learn it, i jus couldn't get used to having a weapon in my hands then once i got used to it i found myself concentratin too much on the weapon in my hands.

Now tho the staff is more like an extension of my body and the more i practice the more I'm enjoyin it.

I LOVE the staff

Yep, I have alot of experience with a Shinai,In Kendo that's basically all we use.

any training tips for the shinai then?
i am having trouble both keeping my feet moving properly and controlling the shinai- especially when i have to do both at the same time!

The only advice I have is repeated practice. In Kendo we practice the same motion over and over and over (such as blocking and shuffle step etc...etc...) and after doing it so much it becomes habit and we don't have to think about it. What art are you using the Shinai in????

what do you train with at home ,(if you don't mind me asking that is)? did you purchase one to train with or just used sticks?

I purchased them to use in Kendo which is most of my training but my Kendo friends come over to my house and we practice.

Right now the only weapon I am training is the Escrima stick, but I can't wait to learn butterfly knives!

what do you train with at home

Sorry, I misread what you were asking, at home I train with Bokken, Shinai, and Iaito (Unsharp Katana). I use my real Katana sometimes too.

Like Snowblade have just learnt the staff, such an awesome weapon, by far my favorite weapon, (May be learning the two man version berfore long)have also learned many years ago the Lau Gar Broad Sword form, not bad form indeed

The weapon I am really looking forward to is the double dagger form, such a practical weapon form, if you are out on the street any weapon like pens/keys in each hand/Mobile phones etc can be used with the techniques.

My weapons are 3 sectional staff , knunchaukas( I think I spelt it wrong) and Staff.

The Big Forward weighted-blade Darn Dao (Think the spelling is right) is a mean sword (Looks like a cross between an over-sized meat cleaver and a standard Broad sword).

Incredible slashing power from it's weight forward blade and has a long grip, to use it single or two-handed. As used by the Big Sword brigade in the Sino-Japanese war.

The Thai Krabi swords are lovely weapons too, useability wise, feel just right in the grip.

Any ideas why the Bagua Straight swords are so big? Usually 40 inch blades? Anyone know why? I don't...

I love the Shurikens also but I can't aim good with them.

I'm surprised nobody has said guns for their weapons yet.lol

Gun Fu?

I guess that that would be cheating....

I like this weapon that is a three sectional staff but if you twist the two middle chains together you make a whole staff.

It's on sale for like twenty dollars to thirty dollars at
www.martialartssupplies.com

I have a Baton , but with a few twist
it turns into a knunchuakas.

I think it's kind of cool.

I've got one of those from years ago. Well actually a two section Nunchaku with a plastic encased wire in the middle and a locking mechanism.

You lock the two together to make one baton. I was more of a danger to myself than anybody else with it though...

How come?
Was it because that it's metal or something?

My favourite martial art weapon of all time is the nunchaku (http://www.nunchaku.org). Fast and usefull for training and sparring. Unfortunately not a very good weapon for real combat, but it is surely a good weapon to learn the basics of the weapons martial arts. If you want to buy one for yourself, please go to this site (http://www.nunchaku.com).
