I study this weapon, it is one of my favorites. We have found that the musical instrument Clave turns into a very effective Dan Bong. We also call this weapon the bone breaker since that is what we use it for. Actually the last tournament we had, on of our students did a great form with this little weapon. In the form he incorperated breaking stations where he broke boards and bricks at the appropriate time in the form. It was awsome.

A Dan Bong is a short stick about 7 or 8 inches in length. They are usually made out of a very tough wood like that of the Clave ( a musical rythmic instrument). The practitioner of the Dan Bong maximizes the energy into the tip of the weapon through a very snappy motion. The weapon usually has a lanyard on it that aids in sucuring the weapon in hand and allows for swinging and choking techniques. The weapon is also very effective in joint locking and pressure point techniques. If you wan't to see what one looks like, just look up the clave on any search engine and you will see, it's just a small stick.

Wow, this is an old thread.

In class, the weapons covered are the yawara stick (kubuton) and I will be getting into nunchakus next.

Later in school I will cover the bo, escrima and some cane techniques. The short stick is not covered.

I purchased a couple tapes "Combat hapkido Dan Bong Vol1 and Vol2" by Master Donald moore.

Tapes are nothing like actual training but I'm picking up combinations and the Low/High principle.
