Hi all!

As some of you might know, I reached 6th MON as a junior, training up until about 2½ years ago. I restarted as a novice white belt on October the 14th (my birthday :D)

Today was my first grading as a senior. Now, as a starter, I was the only one with a hardback license (They changed to paperback around a year ago :D). So basically I was a novice veteran sort of thing :D

First match, I'm against someone who is a few inches taller and quite thin. We played around for a grip for a while until I reached over with my right hand (my fave grip) after a few seconds ?I ground him with a harai-goshi variant. IPPON shouts the ref :D

Second match, and the guy is a little shorter than me but definately older (I'm 16 BTW). This match was one of the best I've ever had (as a junior OR senior and in contest OR randori). Every time I got my reach over-pull him down style grip and ha attempted a throw. I'm like a cat and ALWAYS landed on my front. This was normally followed by a shime-waza technique with me resisting. He got a couple of shidos through the match and was therefore losing. Finally, I threw him with an o-soto-gari for IPPON

Third match I was defeated. My opponent just seemed a bit better than me (he was at the time 3 grades higher!). Having been dropped for no score he applied juji-gatame (armbar) and I tapped.

Final match was against someone who I basically controlled from the start. I eventually dropped him for ippon with another o-soto-gari.

Eventually I was awarded with 6th KYU, having started the day as novice (10th)!!!

Congratulations, that's a fantastic result! :D:D

I moved from a junior green to a senior blue in my first senior grading, which really surprised me at the time!

I was surprised, too.

The night before my coach said "let me know what happens tomorrow - good or bad!"

Also had to sort a few things out at the end as my theory level was not up to my contest level (not expecting to go that high!)

Well done, I'll have to try and co-ordinate with you on which midlands gradings you're going to and come and say hi :) I think that was a great result for your grading and to get those ippons was the best way you could have done it :D

I was impressed with the Walsall campus Judo Suite TBH! Wish I could train there :(

I need a bit more theory first though  We had great trouble getting the grade. I also had my last 2 fights almost back to back, and had just downed some massive bottle of Oasis as I thought I had finished. No sooner had the last drop gone I was called out again!

Theres a tournament soon isn't there (either Kidderminster, Walsall Campus or both!)? I missed out on getting the application forms as my group was the last off and everyone had just about cleared off by that time. Don't have any, do you?

Thanks :)
