ok I was asking my dad if I can get my Half Life CD back and he told me that he doesn't want it on the computer because he says it causes problems and everything slows down.
Is it true? does half life really do that? plz god let it not be so.

Who's PC is it?

It depends on the machine, it may well slow it down if its old or low spec, but if its high spec it shouldn't be a problem...
Post the spec of the PC so we can see (especially GFX card, CPU and RAM)

Sounds like you and your dad have PC probs... first Kazaa and now Half Life.. sort him out Cougar! :D

You play a key role then... I learnt lots by doing that :)

Whats the hardware on it? It might give a clue to why its running slow

i don't know the hardware but we just got a new computer.
its a compaq presario 6000 w/pentium 4 and windows XP.

I mean HL fits fine and all but my dad says that everytime I re-install it theres some sort of problem (ex. the Comp is running slow so I must blame HL for the slowage, the computer is coming up with strange messages so I must blame Half Life.)

Shouldn't be a problem then if its new PC. Its unlikely to be the game. Maybe you should look elsewhere as to why its slow. It could be too many background programs running. Try going here www.protonic.com and emailing them.

You could ask your dad to partition the drive so you can install Kazaa and Half life etc, and they won't interfere with his programs then.

Half Life is not very compatable with XP - thats probably your problem.

BUT I just get problems with my PC through general usage - installing stuff, uninstalling stuff, editing stuff, unediting stuff.......

But I'm not a computer genius. so I dunno

I think he means that you should spend less time on games and more on studying ;) [grrrr!]

It shoudl'nt 'cause a problem on your pc, it's more than enuff to run hl, I got winxp and I can still run hl smoothly on my Geforce 2 MX 400 ;)

I play counter strike all the time on my PC but over the years it has caused nothing but problems. If I have to reinstall for any reason it takes me an age cause I have to sort out all the problems it causes don't know why this is but it certainly is a problem game as far as I am concerned. If I didn't like playing it so much I would leave it of my comp.

Whats TFC?

I have a bad track record with games, the last one I tried to install somehow stripped all the .dll's of the machine when I uninstalled it, which resulted in the most almighty crash I've ever seen. It was such fun retriving all my uni work thru Dos :(

It a mod for HL, like Counter-strike. If half-life runs on your comp, so will TFC. It runs on the same engine.

There is no reason for half-life to slow down your comp either... unless you have something running in the background, like Kazaa or something.

Also, how much RAM do you have? You should have enough for it if you have a P4. Around 512Mb? If it's around 128 / 256, that may be your porblem -if you have another program running at the same time.

You might also want to get a virus scan done on your system. Do You have a virus scanner? If yes, was it updated regulary? If it was'nt then it's too late now, you'll have to take it to a repairer / servicer. It amazing, when I was working as a techie people would bring in their computers because they had problems. They where shocked as hell when we found a virus, even more when we found whole community of them.
"But we have a virus scanner" they would say.
"Have you updated it?"
"We were supposed to update it?!"
Sometimes the scanner was 3 years old, without a single update.

Ouch man! Even 64 MB is more than enuff to run it......unless of course kazaa is on, eats up a load of mem
