I was searching through goggle to find some good martial art books, and I found quite a few of them written by Loren W. Christensen.

First off I have never heard of him before, but his books seem to have gotten good reviews and the amount of books he has writing seems to indicate his knowledge in MA.

I don't have the money to buy a MA art book and find out it is crap, and try another. I want my money to count and I am thinking of purchasing the following books:

Solo Training: The Martial Artist's Guide to Training Alone
by Loren W. Christensen $16.96

Speed Training : How to Develop Your Maximum Speed for Martial Arts Loren W. Christensen $16.32

Fighting Power : How To Develop Explosive Punches, Kicks, Blocks, And Grappling
by Loren W. Christensen $14.96

Fighter's Fact Book: Over 400 Concepts, Principles, and Drills to Make You a Better Fighter
by Loren W. Christensen $ 16.11

The Fighter's Body: An Owner's Manual : Your Guide to Diet, Nutrition, Exercise and Excellence in the Martial Arts
by Loren W. Christensen $16.11

Timing in the Martial Arts: Your Guide to Winning in the Ring and Surviving on the Street
by Loren W. Christensen, $16.95

I was just wondering if this guys books are really good, and if they are which ones should I buy?

Edit: I did a search on the board and not much came up.

I know this is an old thread but I have to say this book (The fighter's body) is awesome and has everything a MAist needs to know on diet and nutrition.

Highly recommended.

I've got Fighters Fact Book and Solo Training. I'd recommend them.

I was sifting through my bosses little library and found the Speed one. Read it for a few hours, I think it's pretty ordinary.
IIRC, go basically goes into some of the ideas of speed, from a martial arts (karate mainly) perspective. Not sure when it was published, but it seemed pretty old school, lots of references to Chuck Norris and Bill Wallace. He then spends the rest of the book listing drill that he as found usefull for speed.
Ideas about speed and power have changed a little since back then, so already it's kinda out of date. And he basically snubs any resistance training in his book.
I do remember him saying that squats are okay for leg strength, but generally he doesn't like them, he prefers leg extensions. You won't find to many writers today recommending leg extensions....

Bottom line, if you're looking for a book specifically addressing speed and power training, there are plenty of better sources out there.
