If I spar for over 30 minutes my face gets very red.
Is this over exertion on my part
or is it due to my level of fitness

Im 51 years old and have been doing martial arts for 3 years

Im reasonably fit but must admit my general stamina level is not high
I dont smoke
But drink about a couple of beers each evening

Thx

If you didin't you'd be either a freak, or not sparring hard enough ;)

Do you get dizzy or lightheaded too? If not, then you're probably fine.

Thanks for advice.

I dont get dizzy or light headed
I do sweat a lot and my face goes bright red

Most of the other ppl in my class do not get quite as red as I do

Then again most of them are in their 20s and 30s

As I said above Im 51 this year

On that matter Id really appreciate any advice on building up my general level of fitness and improving my stamina

Any exercises or dietry advice would be helpful
thx

While working out your body greatly speeds up its rate of metabolism. Sort of like a car racing at high speeds, this increase in activity results in the production of excess body heat. Since our bodies can safely tolerate only slight increases in internal temperature, it's up to our temperature-regulating systems to prevent the heat from building up by somehow releasing it from the body. If the heat is not able to escape, we run the risk of overheating and suffering the effects of heat injury. Most of the heat is lost from the surface through the evaporation of sweat.
...explains why we tend to get "red in the face" during a hard workout

My advice to you is to work on doing some cardio ....

Have you ever suffered from glandular fever?

I once had an uke who used to have it, and ever since as soon as he starts training he sweats like a pig. Perfectly normal as far as I know.
