Anyone ever took a beating off an old man in a class? I guess this is quite common place but was just wondering. In my judo class there is a high percentage of dan grade older guys. Having previously done ju jitsu before starting judo i assumed i my grappling skill were at least average and when gettin paired with a wee old guy who looks like my granda i assumed i would kick his ass. In the space of a three minute newaza session he beat me three time two chokes and one hold down. Think this goes to show that when ure technique, timing etc is almost perfect strength takes a back seat which i think shows the esscense of judo. Either that or im just rotten and jst got took a beating from a pensioner!

We got some old guys at our TKD/Hapkido school who can school the younger, bigger, faster guys on a regular basis. My advice: watch what they do and use it later!

I'm the third oldest person in my school at 45. Sometimes I win at sparring sometimes I don't.

yeah, i know what you mean, my jujitsu teacher used to beat the crap out of me all the time. and hes 59. {also a former SAS guy and judo champion 3 times over} so i guess that justifies my beatings?

Some of the older instructors at my club have amazing timing, and catch me with footsweeps all the time. I remember the first time I got a brief glimpse of zero gravity before I hit the mat.
