Antonino Certa Shihan (5th dan) from Milan, Italy, will teach an introductory seminar in Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu.
DATES: 19th March 2005: 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
20th March 2005: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
VENUE: Sugden Sports Centre,
114 Grosvenor Street
Manchester
M1 7HL
England
The course will focus on techniques from the hiden mokuroku scroll of Daito-ryu as well as sword training.
Daito-ryu is one the few genuine classical jujutsu systems being taught outside of Japan. It was passed down in secret by the Takeda family until it finally became more open in the 20th century. It
is most famous for being the style which Takeda Sokaku taught to Aikido Founder Ueshiba Morihei.
Antonino Certa is one of the only westerners to have studied directly under Takeda Sokaku's son and successor, Tokimune, and to have received grades from him in Japan. Prior to studying Daito-ryu, he was a 4th dan in Aikido (Aikikai). He is now a shihan of the Nihon Daito-ryu Aikibudo Daitokai Association led by Kato Shigemitsu Sensei (40 years of direct practice under Takeda Sensei, of which 11 years were spent as technical director for the school) and Arisawa Gunpachi Sensei (over 30 years of practice under Takeda Sensei and one of the very few to receive complete transmission in Sokaku-den Ono-ha Itto-ryu Kenjutsu).
Martial artists from all styles are welcome (subject to approval of application), but is a particularly wonderful opportunity for Aikidoka to explore one of the roots of the Founder's art.
BOOKINGS: In order to ensure quality instruction, places will be limited. No bookings will be accepted after March 10th.
