Hey guys, for all those boxers out there, was just wondering if you could tell me what a typical session consists of. Thanks :)

For me, when I boxed...it was start in front of the mirrors with a skipping rope for about 30 minutes, resting at every bell and beginning again. Going full out at the 2:30 mark. Then we'd either hit the weights for an hour, or practice on the bag for an hour. Then for the last half-hour we'd get in the ring and practice our combos and stuff with the hand bags. Then after that if you had been going long enough you could spar.

the way they work at our boxing club (the yteach boxing in the same place and sometimes our classes overlap) is almost the same as ours. generally goes something like this-

stretching for 10 minutes
skipping for 10-15 minutes
shadow boxing 10 minutes

then they move onto padwork, throwing combinations. only room for one bag so they usually will cycle through, some people on pads while one guy on the heavy bag. there are only a few people though. this is about an hour or 1.5 hours, deending on if they spar or not.

Mine normally starts with a light warmup, a few mins of shadow boxing, some time on the floor to ceiling ball (i love that thing! :D ), then onto the heavy bag, then abit of sparring :)

Right at the end we normally do a fair bit of cardio workout just to kill us before we go home :)

What do ceiling balls do for you? ie. do they improve your technique or accuracy or speed etc

They help build timing, distance and accuracy.

30 minutes running, usually streets or something.
Then bagwork for half an hour, with some pads and sparring thrown in.
Then floorwork for 20 minutes.

Replace the running with skipping on some days and thats it.

I have omitted the kick boxing and grappling from this and just put the boxing (or hand tech.) specific things I do here,

1. warm up for 10-15 min.

2. Jump rope for 15 min.

3. focus mitts for 3 rounds

4. sparring for 3 rounds (which I don't do as often as I would like)

5. Heavy bag for 3-4 rounds (sometimes uppercut bag)

6. double end bag for 2 rounds

7. I alternate days between doing partner drills with a medicine ball or working the punch sheild or a wall target we have.

8. Shadow boxing 3 rounds

9. Work on techniques with a partner

10.speed bag

11.Alternate between sprints and regular roadwork.

that seems like more of a solo-work out than a boxing session

I know how to box alright, i know karate a little and kung fu, a little. I just train at home on my own because i dunno if there's a boxing gym anywhere and why would i learn at a gym when i got a family member...or future family member here who knows and teaches me for free.

Sorry, but if you're not boxing at a decent, amateur boxing association-affiliated gym, then you're not boxing. End of story.
