Everyone I speak to has a different cure for hangovers. I've not actually came across one that works properly yet. Other than not getting drunk in the first place, but thats no fun :D So...

Whats your favoured hangover cure, that actually works? If you post a decent one, I'll test them thoroughly :D

This should be good. I think I'm still feeling crook from 30 hours ago....

I've never tried it, I've heard Tabasco sauce does the drink... um... I mean trick.

Stay drunk

drinking a pint of water before bed normally works

Greg-VT

Or a glass of water for every drink you have. I find this works pretty well… to an extent. But it's more of a preventative then a cure.

Here's my method, which always works for me to varying degrees!

While drinking, regularly skull a glass of tapwater. It's not hard to remeber that between every drink or two, drink some water. When you get home try to stay up for a while and drink lots more water. Try at least a litre or two before you crash. Try to stay up for an hour or two not drinking anything but water.

Right before bed, swallow a couple of Ibuprofen tablets (Nurofen, etc.)

Next day you should be more tired than hung over and that's gotta be a bonus! ;)

A hang over is a combination of toxic poisoning (alcohol is a type of poison after all) and dehydration. The water helps with both - it dilutes and helps to flush out the toxins and it re-hydrates you. The ibuprofen will relax your muscles so that you sleep better and (if you've been up and not drinking for an hour or two) your hangover may have started to come on already, so the ibuprofen helps you deal with the headache and you can sleep through the majority of a hangover.

When it comes down to it, a hangover is simply poisoning and dehydration so no manner of mad old wives remedies are gonna do jack unless they address these issues.

Good luck and happy drinking!

;)

...finally a subject where I can apply my many years of experience!!!
When I was in college we used to take "hangover pills" sold over the counter... (mainly while on spring break)...I believe they consisted of calcium carbonate and charcoal.

I've heard just about every type of cure out there...tomato juice and raw eggs...strong black coffee.

Spike is dead on with the water! ...drink half a pint of water to every unit of alcohol BEFORE going to bed. The hangover the next morning is caused by dehydration.

Also try orange juice. Vitamin C helps to combat the symptoms of a hangover.

Exercise helps to get your body functioning ... unless you're feeling really ill, then rest or go back to sleep!
If your eyes are sensitive to the light, then wear dark glasses:cool: (dead give away for me!)

Do not try the ‘hair of the dog’ routine, ...eventually does compound the inevitable .. a double doozy!!
Don't take aspirin, bad for the stomach lining ...burn, sizzle. And acetaminophen (tylenol) has been linked to liver toxicity, especially when combined with alcohol.

Try an over the counter hangover cure like Alka Seltzer. It works within an hour of taking it. ... unless you have a good one!

I usually have an early night that day – a good night’s sleep works wonders.

Why is it we always say we’ll never do it again but we invariably always do!

A friend of mine is having his kick-ass black belt celebration party this weekend... I'll see how I feel afterwards!

Yeah, Kickchick makes another good point. No matter how ****** you feel, work out the next morning and drink a lot of water during it.

I used to work in a commercial aquarium. The place was divided into two halves with a regular shop in the front and a large heated room at the back (cheaper than heating each tank seperately).

Whenever I showed up with a hangover, the boss used to send me out the back to shift 25kg bags of gravel or clean the high up tanks or something. An hour or two of physical work in that heat and humidity and the hangover was a distant memory!

So, if you're hanging, go running! ;)

Lots of soda water the night before helps, followed by a full english breakfast after you wake.

Eating before you go to bed seems to help!

Even a big greasy kebab seems better than an emply stomach full of alcohol!

I'd agree with the water, although I don't drink that much, I'd be getting up every 10 min! :D Take a large glass of water to bed with the both of you! ;)

My main problem is tiredness the next day :o

And also when you feel like your blood pressure is sky high.....

if you drink a pint of milk before you go out then try drinking water when you get back as well as eating that should help.

if none of that works there is always more drink

Works for me.

Sounds like a kyokushinkai style hangover cure to me... in other words, your nuts, I'll pass! :p

A mate of mine recommended banana sandwiches before you go out. He swears by it, the potassium sorts him out he says. I don't think I could eat that without being sick.

I've tried the full english before, it worked OK, but i usually feel too fragile to make anything other than pathetic whinging noises when I'm hungover :)

I'll try the water thing next time I go out, though I don't like the idea of drinking water when I could be having a beer, I'll give it a go :)

If I have anything of value to share on forum, take this from an experienced drinker.

Prior to going out for a serious session, drink a pint of milk, and two adult portions of rice.

The milk lines the stomach, and the rice ensures a slow release of toxin into the bloodstream as it absorbs and expands.

These two alone are enough to put you in the finishing pack, but to get you up in the morning;

(Oh, and never, ever, ever mix red wine with anything!)

1/ Cheating, but 'spew' if you can before you sleep.

2/ Drink 3 pints of water before bed, imagine they are beer if you like, but they will either make you wet the bed, waking you up, or have you running for the loo in the middle of the night.

3/ Cold shower in the morning followed by 3 litres of toothpaste, 2 lumps of dry fibre (weetabix) with tomato sauce, with a side order of Gaviscon.

4/ If all else fails, have another beer!

Remember Kids, if you remember to do the hangover cure before you go to bed, you didn`t drink enough you PANSY!

Quote from Mo Lung "It's not hard to remeber that between every drink or two, drink some water. "

If you mean that, you`re obvioulsy not drinking enough,

Quote from KickChick "drink half a pint of water to every unit of alcohol BEFORE going to bed. "

you`re kidding right? half a pint for every unit? What if (Not that I drink this much, obviously) you`ve had 25 units?

Fair point well presented. I shall follow that advice from now on.

It doesn`t solve the problem of me having to drink 12 pints of water though

OMG!!! You guys are too funny LOL. I had a good laugh.

My cure is ...... I eat well during the day if I know I'm going to drink. Lots of "alcahol soaking" foods is great, like bread and milk. My hangover prevention is asprin before bed, and a class of V8. Because you lose vitamins when you drink, so V8 puts it back, and plenty of water :)

In the morning, gatoraid is the s**t! For me, as soon as a drink it, I feel like new again. It also re-hydrates the body from a night of drinking. And a shower in the morning also helps. A nice breakfast is good, too. It puts back what you lost the night before.

For a mean hangover, it would be gatoraid and noodles. I donno what you brits have, but in America, we have what is called Ramen noodles. Kinda like chinese noodles with tons of salt already in it. It re-hydrates the body and carbs, on top of the Gatoraid. For me, it works wonders :D Aspin works, too in the morning.

Saz
22-May-2003, 12:40 AM
We've got Supernoodles! You can't eat them when your sober though, they're one of them come-in-from-the-pub foods... Yuk :(

Whats Gatoraid??

Greg-VT

You don't have Gatorade? Power Plus? They are sports drinks. Re-hydrates and minerals/body salts.

I never had a hangover for years.. then when I was about 18, I woke up one day after a night out wondering who the hell had kicked me in the head or something! I didn't know what hit me. Maybe i need to stay constantly drunk to avoid them.

And is it just me, or do they get worse as you get older?

Greg-VT

My worse one was about 3 weeks after my 18th.... and I'd prefer not to recall it... let alone think about recalling it. Ah there it is... errrrrrr... bad idea.

But yeah, when I do drink, which is not too often these days, I have have heaps of water, And really don't have too much of problem.

I guess I have to pool together all my years of knowledge gathering and help you kids out. When you wake up in the morning feeling rough do something that gives you a buzz. I found out about this while I was on a skydiving holiday in florida. I thought I was going to vomit all the way up in the plane. The second I jumped out the buzz kicked in and the hangover was gone. Obviously you don't always have a plane handy so nowdays I just get the gloves on and go a few rounds with the nearest person. Once the blood is pumping and I break a sweat I feel great.

LOL

Good list booksie. Here's three that I've been familiar with....

Seeing as I don't have much else to do at the moment, I'll write a little story to set the backdrop for "the three".

Firstly, it was my 18th Birthday party.

About two thirds of the way through the party, one of my mates got a call from his girlfriend saying she wanted to break up. He wanted to see her and talk about it.
She lived about a 15 minute walk away, through a school, a little bit of bushland, and a little bit of parkland. Finishing in her suburban neighbourhood (nice lush green lawns ;) )
Seeing as it was late, and the nature of the walk, my cousin and his girlfriend, and myself, decided (after being told to by relatives) to accompany him to the destination.

Taking drinks with us, we started off. Old stories came out... and all that "bluh bluh". We finally got there, and my mate went inside to talk, and the remaining three of us waited outside on the lawn waiting..... This is where......

You fall off the floor...
It was actually the ground... while waiting for them. The lawn kept pushing me over.

You have to hold onto the lawn to keep from falling off the earth.
Following above. My cousin and his g/f also had the same problem....

You've fallen and you can't get up.
Following above. We tried to use each other for leverage.... but it just didn’t work out....

Ahh fun fun. T'was a good night. The trip back was just a entertaining.

DON'T DRINK LIKE A DUCK SO YOU DON'T QUACK!

A tall glass of tomato juice before sleeping works fine for me. (better if that would be your "one for the road.") - now if eastern medicines is available in your area, "activated charcoal" whether in pill-form or powder drank as a "tea" would "detoxify" you,. Drank before the party, might let you also drink more than a duck but without the quack afterwards.. ( YOU'LL BE SOBER ALL NIGHT LONG!)

nOW... hand me the brew please.., thanks.
