Pound for pound, who was the greatest boxer?
Sugar Ray Robinson has been given that particular title, but i think that Muhammed Ali has to have been one of, if not thebest boxer of all time.
what are your thoughts on this?

Personally, i'd have to say Ali. Simply because of the amount of heart he put into boxing and winning.
Even to this day, his fights haven't lost even a smidgen of their entertainment value.

i would say either ray robinson or tyson. tyson in his prime had amazing head and body movement, quickness, combinations, and power. ali is great, but tyson had head and body movement and quickness similar to ali's along with devestating power which ali lacked.
ray robinson had it all.

It was never ever Tyson and don't think you'll find a boxing expert that agrees with you. The common picks are Sugar Ray Robinson and Ali. Ali was the greatest boxing figure but was he the greatest boxer? No. He should really have lost to Henry Cooper back in 1963 and for that reason alone he cannot be upheld as the greatest boxer.
I dunno who it is. Of the boxers I have seen fights of I'd say Marvin Hagler but I know he probably isn't better than Robinson overall.

there are many "pound for pound" best fighters. it depends on the era you speak of.
ali has my respect. no boxer has captured the imagination of so many.
there were the great middleweights of the 80s. "sugar" ray leonard, leon spinx, roberto "el maso" duran, tommy "the hitman" herns and "marvelous" marvin haggler.
then there was rjj. some said he was the michael jordan of boxing. i say, if he were'nt so bored with boxing, and if dropped his rapping and his basketball, he would still be pound for pound, the best.
some boxing rag just said the best pound for pound right now is manny "pacman" paquiao.

Everybody has their personal favourite but mine has to be Sugar Ray Leonard. I know he used to showboat by sticking his chin out and doing the windmill movement with his arms but he always seemed to be so natural and relaxed when he was fighting. :D

Tyson was the greatest fighter there ever was. He was a machine. The unfortunate thing is the circumstances and choices which led his life in a direction that wasn't helpful to his career. That and D'amato dying, that was a turning point for Tyson.

Mate ur soo right thats true he would have won but angelo dundee cut ali's glove to give ali some time to catch his breath and asked to get a new one, but instead of just saying tape it up the ref sent away for a new one, once ali got it back together dundee said nah dont worry bout it well just tape it, then that was it ali just hit coopers eyes cos he had weak eyebrows they split realy easy..

Even Henry Cooper lost you know to Peter Bates as I know Peter as he lives up the road from me. He a shadow of what he used to be and he's a very interesting guy when you get him talking about boxing and how it's changed since he was in the game.
I vote for Ali and always will lol.

I believe that there was some computer simulation done in which he fought Ali, and Ali won. Although how accurate that was, I have no idea, because a simulation obviously isnt the same as the real thing, especially since its hard to judge heart, and will power, which are very important in fighting

tyson fought bums like Bruno and witherspoon
And he got battered 15 years ago, only 2 years after getting the undisputed, by a complete bum who we never heard of b4 or since.
Get real.
Tyson is a joke anyone who knows boxing doesnt rate him hes for the housewives and none boxers.
Ali Is The Greatest, of all times.

tyson lost to douglas before he ever entered the ring. his mind was mush by then.
i guess someone who has over 25 that ended in 2 rounds or less has no talent. ;)
do any of you tyson detractors have any idea of how implausible it is for a man under 6 feet to become the undisputed heavyweight champ.

Sam Langford, Henry Armstrong, Ray Robinson possibly Harry Greb or Roberto Duran.
Ali? Tyson? Pffft, not as p4p boxers. As heavyweights they were both great, but its not the same thing. I mean, i love ali, he totally transcended boxing to become one of the greatest people ever, but get real.

Hey dont forget about the Italian stallion Rocky Balboa. The come back fight after losing the title to Clubber was amazing. Not to forget the death of his trainer micky. When he was training to avenge the death of his friend Apollo, he would run up a snowy mountain and scream "DRAAAAAAAGGGOOOOO"!. then he would chop logs, lift rocks and grow a beard. The guy is a legend. He overcame many hardships in his life, more so then any of the before mentioned boxers. For me he is the best.

people have this problem with tyson because of his attitude. people want heros not villains, which is why so many people rate ali over tyson, or say hes just a thug (because people who are "just thugs" do real well in boxing)
I dont like him either, despite the hilarious things he says, but that doesnt detract from his skill. the same thing happens in all walks of life- people say that hitler was a madman. well the line between genius and madman is a thin one. fact is that he took over europe and pulled germany out of a rut. if it werent for his glaring mistake of going to war with russia he would have won that war.

don't forget the a-bomb. would the americans have droped the a-bomb on european soil? the americans also had the industrial capabalities for ultimate victory.
i recently read albert spear's (hitler's architecht) memoirs. an interesting sometimes comical portrait of hitler.

americans only got involved at the end. to be honest, i think if hitler had won the european war, and it was just russia and germany there, america would have made peace.

I rate Ali over Tyson not because he's a hero, or Tyson a villain; but because Ali was a highly entertaining boxer. I love watching him demonstrate his skill and cast iron heart.
I'm not saying Tyson has no skill; I just find Ali's fights much more entertaining to watch.

George Foreman would have beatn Ali in RUmble in the jungle but his head was too big, he got a big head...not too mention he cheated on his wife while he was in Africa before the fight date which he said hurt him quite abit.
